San Francisco police are investigating the possibility that one of the victims in the fatal tiger mauling on Christmas Day climbed over a waist-high fence and then dangled a leg or other body part over the edge of a moat that kept the big cat away from the public, sources close to the investigation said Wednesday.

“The tiger however was just doing what a tiger does.”

To quote Chris Rock re: Siegfried and Roy - “That tiger didn’t go crazy, that tiger went TIGER.”

It’s tragic that someone died what was I’m sure a horrible death. Hopefully no one else will think it’s a good idea to throw sticks at and then climb into a tiger’s pen.

No..My God did not intend for you to kill anything you didn’t like or was in your way. He gave most of us compassion. Don’t know who your God is.

"This cat should have never had access to a person due to its controlled environment. In the wild it would be different. In the wild it would be a threat."

Bingo.

Too bad the cops had to shoot the cat instead of the idiot visitors.

Some youths make a mistake and pay for it with their lives. Your comment shows you have no class or couth.

The Zoo has a responsibility here that cannot be avoided. Where were the Zoo keepers? The security staff?

How did they GET INTO the ‘pen’ without being noticed?

Thats 100% on the Zoo.

Look, cats learn. Only someone who believes a cat doesn't learn would keep one around after it'd figured you could be torn apart like any other chunk of food.

One more time, cats are not automatons!

Nah, this was either an initiation or, as a couple of freepers have pointed out, a “Jackass” type of thing. The whole thing looks preplanned- driving 50 miles, going on the day it’s least crowded, waiting til after the zoo closed, and the kid who died had no identification on him.

That makes the most sense so far. That age male is not particularly inclined to go the zoo in the first place, at least I’ve never seen them there just sightseeing. It’s always couples, usually with kids in tow, of old people, with or without kids.

Why is everyone talking about the tiger aquiring a taste for human flesh?! It doesn’t say he killed and devoured the kid - just slashed his throat and then hunted down and mauled his knucklehead companions - no eating is mentioned!

yes they do, very quickly. My point is every tiger who has not been Sigfried’d will attack a person given the chance. Thats what tiger’s do.

Its pretty simple, stay outta its environment and you don’t get hurt.

Wrong! If they tormented the cat, they would treat people the same,no respect for anything. If they climbed the fence, or urged someone else, I don’t need them on my planet. The media wants us to feel soooorrry for them, if they instigated this at 17, 20 or 21 years old, they need to get out of the gene pool.I wasn’t that damnably stupid at that age, were or are you? Maybe you think its funny or okay to hurt or torture a caged animal. Or normal.I don’t.I call shenanigans! Visiting a zoo is a privilege, not a right to torment animals. The evidence is now coming in, it doesn’t look good for their lawsuit, and not wanting to give their name to the cops, are there warrants or parole violations out there?

I’d use that as a good learning example.

To my kids:

Some idiots were in the zoo teasing the tiger. It got out and killed one and injured two others. Never tease an animal because it’s a dangerous, stupid thing to do and you might get hurt, too.

************************************************************

The other thing was to discuss roadkill:

See what happens when a car hits something? It loses. If you run out into the road, you’ll lose, too. The car is bigger, faster, and heavier. If it’s between you and the car, the car wins every time.

Sorry, I don’t agree. If it is a dog that viciously attacks a human, then I would agree to put it down since dogs are around humans day to day. But the reason wild animals are kept behind bars and moats and away from humans that are not trained to specifically deal with dangerous wild animals is because... dangerous wild animals will attempt to kill humans when given the opportunity.

There is no reason to put down an animal that reacts normally to the stimulus around them. The zoo keeper who was injured by this cat last year failed to follow proper behavior around the cat and the cat reacted. That incident alone should not have brought about the cat’s death.

Whoever taunted this cat into leaving it’s enclosure did so with malice I believe. In doing so, they led to the death of another human and to the death of the tiger. I believe that they will find it is some “anti-zoo” animal rights freak who knew full well that the tiger would be put down and would stir up trouble for zoos in general.
