LAKE MARY, Fla. -- A Seminole County middle school teacher was arrested Friday after deputies said they discovered her inside a vehicle shortly after she had sex with a 14-year-old boy.
Jennifer Tarkenton, 34, of Lake Mary, was arrested on three counts of lewd or lascivious battery on a child 12 or older by a person over the age of 18.
Tarkenton is a teacher at Greenwood Lakes Middle School in Lake Mary, according to Seminole County sheriff's investigators. Deputies said they believe that the boy is a student at the school.
According to a Seminole County sheriff's report, deputies responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle at about 10 p.m. Thursday in the area of 800 Banana Lake Road in Lake Mary. Deputies said a woman, later identified as Tarkenton, and a 14-year-old boy were inside the vehicle.
The boy told deputies that he and Tarkenton had sex inside the vehicle after she picked him up at his house, drove to a nearby pharmacy and purchased condoms.
"The bottom line is we have an adult in the position of trust. We have an adult in a position of authority. (This) should never happen," Seminole County sheriff's Lt. Dennis Lemma said.
Seminole County school district officials told Local 6 News that they will send letters to parents of students at Greenwood Lakes Middle School regarding the incident.
Tarkenton was transported to the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, where she later posted a $10,000 bond.

In no way do I mean to belittle the seriousness of situations such as this, and you may call me crass or whatever you like, but I find the posting posting of these stories and the resultant judgements by FReepers rather humorous in an ironic sense.
I have a 12 and 10 year old sons, and a 15 year old stepson. IIRC, in this particular story, the teacher wasermitted to pick up the boy and take him somewhere. As a parent, teacher or not, I would not allow this, and IMO, lack of parental supervision contributed greatly to this nonsense.

Even more ironic is the occaisional “Why do women vote Liberal” thread which makes me want to scream “MAYBE BECAUSE THEY READ ALL THE OTHER THREADS ABOVE!”

Respectfully its not nonsense. Its rape.
There are people in this country seeking to legalize this type of behavior. Joking about it and calling it nonsense minimizes the impact this has on childrens lives.
But what about the teachers who have had sex with underage students in situations where the parents thought it was OK? (School trips, on campus, tutoring sessions etc).
The issue is the action of the teacher, parent’s supervision or no.

You are right though. For what it's worth I'd never be part of a woman are evil bashfest. Hell, I love how the creation story ends with God making babes last. As though He took a look at His handiwork and clearly decided "I can't do better than this. May as well call it a day" (or a week - you get the idea). By participating in the “Naugty Teahcer” threads, I dont mean to infer that this teacher, or a teacher guilty of this kind of crime in the setting you mentioned, shouldn’t be prosecuted to the maximum extent. Simply dark humor.

I appreciate the irony in the jokes here, and the jokes surely don’t bother me personally; maybe it just hits a little too close to home. Makes me worry about my child EVERY TIME he is away from me, and with ANYBODY. Sad times we live in.

I'm not condoning any of this, but it seems that if you REALLY want to do this sort of thing, you should be more discreet. Of course, having sex with minors is indiscreet to start with, so what's the point of this comment, anyway?
