Bull!!! If alcohol can cause fetal damage, you can bet hard drugs will.
Years ago, I remember seeing a young boy wearing glasses. Half of one inner lens towards the bridge of his nose was covered with black tape or paint. The entire lens was not covered.
I always thought "lazy eye" was when one eyelid closed without the person noticing it.
How it was explained to me: The eyes are held in place by "rubberbands"... One of the rubberbands is longer or weaker than the other.
My girlfriend was very upset. His eyes did straighten out before he went to school.
What I’ve read is that in a methadone users’ study, 25% of their babies had strabismus, compared to 5% of the general population who had it.
Also, I know I called DL’s problem “lazy eye” once, but I think that’s amblyopia. I’ve known lots of people with that.
It was my understanding that strabismus affects both eyes - but in DL’s case, it’s the left more than the right. Larry explained it a little bit wrong on ET, saying it was just in one eye - which would’ve made it amblyopia.
I think there was another condition that Dr KE mentioned when DL was a newborn, but now I’ve forgotten what the term was that she used. It *may* have been strabismus, but I think it was yet another one with an “opi-” or “opti-” in it.
