Tom, as the Spirit of Poison Ivy, Causing Awful Itching: Did he have a tarantula with him?
The hair of the tarantula used to be what gave itching powder it's "bite".

Well, looky day-ah! (as they say in South GA)
You're standing under the oak tree at the corner of Main and Concord, right in front of DCPC!
Looks like you have several upcoming classes covered < g > . . . .

He might have had some spiders in his leaves, since they’d been in the garage, but no tarantulas.

How did they know what a Grue looked like, in order to make the sign?
. . . as any aficionado of Zork (the old mainframe Adventure) knows . . .

Yes, we’d just looked at the church and were getting ready to go to the cemetery.

Find anybody you knew in the graveyard?
I used to be quite the cemetery aficionado, when I was between jobs. My oldest's (the Davidson girl) earliest memories include playing on a blanket on top of a flat tombstone while I wrote down dates and took rubbings . . . .

I'm anxiously awaiting pictures from my daughter and her friends' trick-or-treating adventures.
Davidson has an entertaining custom - on Hallowe'en afternoon the townies' children trick-or-treat the dormitories, and the students are all ready for them with treats and decorations. Then later in the evening the students return the favor by hitting up the kids' parents for goodies themselves . . . and a jolly good time is had by all!
She and a bunch of her friends went to an anime' convention in September - as the characters from "Phoenix Wright - Ace Attorney" ("Gyakuten Saiban").
Daughter as Maya Fey, friends as Phoenix and Franziska von Karma . . . .
. . . a judge I know said he wishes the attorneys who appear before him would dress as nicely as Phoenix (he tends to get the shagbags at the arraignment calendar). . . . but the rest of that lot made him laugh. (I mean, how many law offices have a psychic investigator? Although I guess it would be handy, if you could get a good one.)

As a Zork expert you know no one has seen a Grue and lived.
Maybe forensic evidence helped a lot, like the teeth marks being spaced and sharp.

I suppose neither place is safe for Westerners, these days. Iran seems to be, except for the government. Two or three years back there was some kind of an (amateur?) astronomer's conference there. The Americans were treated like royalty.
I've seen similar reports from other folks. One fellow visited a small village, and as soon as they learned there was an American there, everybody turned out to have tea with him.

That’s the way it was in Pak, so I imagine it’s that way in a lot of Middle Eastern countries. (Too bad the MSM is doing such a hatchet job on this country.) Paks love Americans, and are always ready to greet them. Even the Jihadists have a secret desire to taste PORK!

LoM says it’s because Americans over there behaved differently from other foreigners. They didn’t lord it over the natives.
And a number (enough, I guess) just stayed and “went native.”

I would have loved to “go native.” In fact, I surprised my friend by asking for the traditional dress for the Pak women, in addition to Western styles. Everyone was pleased about it, including the tailor!

Why would they?
So they could claim to be Zongo Zorks?
If you have a Zongo Zork should you squeeze it?
