Time for an update. The Free Republic Folding team #36120 started about 4 years ago, and became popular in December of 2005. We will hit 30,000,000 points this week and congratulations are in order to all folders.
Our FreeRepublic team of 475 members comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing have banded together to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimer's, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).
Currently, the team is in 56th place (with 1000 active CPUs - 143,600 completed Work Units and 29.975 million points).
Please join us and hellp cure Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinsons Disease. You can make a difference!
Thanks for the update TB.
Running FAH on a Linux box is fairly straightforward. Let me know if you have any issues.
Thanks, I will.
I do have a question. The FAH client download shows an exe.. I was expecting a tar.gz or ? What’s up with that?
I did start a FAH client on WinXP running in my VirtualBox, it ran ok, just slow. LOL
I had completely forgot I was a part of this group. I’ll get my quad-core processor, and dual-core laptop processor back in gear to add some stats to team FreeRepublic.
Thanks for the ping.
The due time is the last day it can be submitted before becoming “stale”.
I don’t remember your folding name to check current stats but at least you are cranking away.
It’s the same thing as this, wastedyears.
"What's up" is that the prog was written by Windoze programmers. Yeah, it's an exe, but it was compiled for Linux. It will run fine once you've executed a chmod 755 on it. It will actually download other programs to run the actual testing as well.
Good morning,
Thanks.
Wow, thanks for the folding. Drop an SMP client onto the laptop, and two SMP clients onto the quad-core and you will be cranking out enough points to be top 5 on the team.
Not bad with two systems.
FReepmail if you need help.
I hadn’t paid attention to points in awhile. Had no clue that I’m only about 2 weeks away from a cool million, and I’ve been doing this for less than 18 months. It certainly adds up quickly.
BTW, for the week, I’m equally all of DU so far, but tomorrow looks very bad pointwise so they’ll get ahead. I usually run about 2/3 of their totals. Just goes to show liberal compassion.
What a bunch of blowhards. While we are glad for their contributions to science, they are in serious need of little blue pills just to keep folding. Only 43 DUmmies have contributed in the last week, and only 15 have posted any points today.
I sure with that Monica_Lewinsky had decided to keep folding for DU. Rumors have it that workunits were donated in her name, but I think that she really likes those dudes.
I fully expect that you will provide Stanford with more completed work units in September than the entire DUmmie team.
Again, I am glad that they fold. Maybe they will provide a key discovery that will keep the next Ronald Reagan healthy for another 20 years.
You have a great and positive outlook with just the right amount of sinister glee.
Yes they might save the next REAGAN, but I wouldn’t even want bill clinton to suffer many of the diseases (truly horrible and painful) that may be cured, and I don’t even like him.
I'm back after a long hiatus during which I had a number of CPUs drop off line. My position drifted from the low 40s up to the high 50s in the process. But I'm back and my son has joined on with his new pride and joy. Anyone else using a PS3 currently? The WUs seem to be pretty slow being credited - a lot slower than he's churning them out ...
I have had to check a lot of my systems over the holidays. Found a couple that just couldn’t upload results. A reboot seemed to solve both problems.
If you have a new computer that is dual core, set up the console version to fold 2 work units, one in each core. Lotsa points that way. SMP work units are even better.
Boy, the PS3 system REALLY cranks 'em out. Three 300+ WUs in 24 hours...
Congratulations! That’s quite an achievement of compassion and giving.
I should be bringing up a quad core shortly, but I had a fun idea. Maybe I should encourage our competition towards more charity.
Should I fold under the name ClintonIsARapist for DU until I’m in their top 10 (about 3 or weeks)? I would think that they would make a concerted effort to bump me lower just to keep that name off the top of their list.
Just wanted a little feedback :)
should read about 3 or 4 weeks. That’s what I get for posting after making home made margueritas.
You would be their #1 folder with either a PS3 or the SMP system, much less the quad-core.
The way things are going, if you donated your points for a month you would be their #5 folder. The way things are going, you might end up top 10 forever.
