2 deaths at Ozzfest, arrests lead to booze ban in parking lot

Authorities are taking a tougher approach after a crackdown failed to stop underage drinking at PNC Bank Arts Center.

Effective Friday, alcohol is banned in the parking lot of the central New Jersey Arts Center. The ban comes a day after two people died and more than 80 people were arrested Thursday night at an Ozzfest concert.

Police are investigating the deaths of two men, identified as Raymond Guarino, 26, of Forked River and Patrick Norris, 24, of Coram, N.Y.

After possibly taking drugs and alcohol, both passed out in separate incidents at the concert, went into cardiac arrest and later died. State Police said the men were believed to have ingested cocaine, marijuana and alcohol prior to their deaths, and troopers who searched Guarino's vehicle found small amounts of both drugs.

Eighty-three people were arrested during the concert; 59 were charged with underage drinking. Other charges included distribution of drugs, lewd behavior and providing alcohol to a minor.

Authorities said the Ozzfest incidents were the latest in a long string of problems this season that led them to ban alcohol in the center's parking lot.

"This is a dramatic step to have to take, but one that is necessary given the potential consequences of such risky behavior," Gov. Jon S. Corzine said Friday.

When the drunks and druggies can clean up after themselves without inconveniencing civilians and bury their own dead without help from the taxpayers, then they can complain.

So maybe they need a Designated Coroner in addition to a Designated Driver. Would that solve the problem and make you happy?

I think so. Last concert I went to at PNC was Barry Manilow. Seriously. I like his music.

I also like Metallica and AC/DC, so I have Barry Manilow gayness offset credits.

Does that study include alcohol?

There’s no reason to, the bands are usually crap.

Now all new cars have GPS.
Next alcohol detectors.

A newswoman tested one of these cars.
1 gulp of beer and the car alerted her she was not going anywhere.

Also detects sleepy drivers and shuts down.

Wonder if on uses alcohol hand sanitizers or swabs for diabetes testing if the car shuts down.

>>32% of State prisoners and 26% of Federal prisoners said they had committed their current offense while under the influence of drugs.

SO the remainder of the perps were presumably sober when they committed the crimes.

Assuming some of them were drunk, let’s just add 20% to each number to include criminals under the effects of alcohol while committing crimes.

That leaves a lot who were just plain sober.

Is sobriety an early indicator of future criminal behavior?

I’ll bet a good old fashioned fireplace bellows will defeat that stupid breathalyser. Maybe even a balloon that was inflated before drinking.

Probably tripping too.

I see nothing has changed at Ozzfest.

About 1990 I went to my last rock concert in the Cotton Bowl.

Got caught in the middle of a drunken brawl and got knocked down.

I had some kid, about fifteen, covered in puke falling all over me, telling me he drank too much. I stepped in his puke and someone else's. (Yuk!)

Couldn't see the stage, the sound sucked and it was so freaking hot I thought I was going to melt.

A little debauchery between friends is one thing, but tens of thousands of people is too much. Never again, too much trouble for too little entertainment.

Probably the one good band they had was Iron Maiden, in 2005. Sadly, I boycotted them that year because of their participation in Ozzfest.

I agree. The Taliban ministry of vice and virtue should just round them all up and have them shot on site.

The Quran forbids it!

I couldn’t afford to go see them that year. If I had, I would’ve gone just for them, then left. Ozzfest is corporate garbage anyway.

LoL!

Some guy got a knuckle-sandwich, his body came flying through the air and knocked me down.

Didn’t get hurt but I was pissed off.

Nah, keep them in a state of perpetual anxiety.

That way, they keep smoking, surreptitiously, mainly in private, wait til we get a complete ban on public indulgence anywhere, and we get their taxes.

Don’t think we haven’t learnt from the Talibs; killing the golden goose is not very smart.

According to the Survey of Inmates in Local Jails, 1996, more than half of the jail inmates with an intimate victim had been drinking or using drugs when they committed the violent crime.

Clearly the answer is to ban Ozzfest.

For the children.
