The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Oh, please dear! The Supreme Court has roundly rejected prior restraint!

It has a quote for everything...

On the other hand, the fact that you guys can just quote it back and forth that fast is scaring me a bit. ;-)

I just hit 70k on my story At least 10k left, maybe more.

Today I cleaned a bathroom, replaced a curtain with a decorative hanging we got in Japan, changed sheets, and stripped the ugly border wallpaper from half the kitchen. I feel productive.

I...um...welll...let’s see, what did I do? I took books back to the library, got groceries, cleaned a typewriter, and crocheted a bit. Well...it’s something. And I’m washing the couch cover. And watching a movie.

So how did he like his first semester at school?

Did y'all get a noren? I saw a beautiful deep blue one with a dragonfly on it, but I just didn't want to spend the money. I figured I could make one like it for less, and paint it myself. Of course, I've never gotten around to doing that, but there was no place in this house that I wanted to put one anyway. Maybe the next house.

It’s been about a month since I last spoke to him — he doesn’t have a phone of his own and doesn’t like using the one in the common area, so he usually only calls when he’s able to borrow one. I’ve thought about buying him one of those prepaid phones for Christmas...though knowing him, he’d use up all the minutes the first week...

I think he’s enjoying it, but also not doing as well as he might, partly because he’s turned various papers in late due to wanting ‘em perfect.

I shoulda made him to NaNo...heh. That’ll cure perfectionism...

His overall grades were pretty good, though, so there’s that.

Very nice indeed. Looks very businesslike.

We’ll be expecting a range report asap :-)

Kimber sure makes a fine fiream. Kudos.

There was a dead Basset on the road in front of the store. :(

Dammit, that lady has no business running a rescue.

Oh no! That’s so sad. What a pity. :-(

At the very least, she needs to invest in a decent fence, for cryin’ out loud! Her heart may be in the right place, but geesh... I’m surprised they’re still happily passing dogs to her, considering how often they’ve gotten out.

I’m developing a definite bias toward Kimber. This’ll only be my second. I just like the way they do things. This one is out of their custom shop. [Sigh]

Did I mention that it only weighs 25oz? :-)

Clare had a problem with getting papers in on time, because she'd stay up late watching anime. Her grades came out all right, and she kept her scholarship, but she was sweating it late in the spring semester. I think it might be different this year, simply because of the set up of the new dorm rooms. I'll find out when she gets home. ;o)

She told me last week that there will be almost 300 kids in the next Freshman class. They're gonna have to get another couple of dorms built!
