The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

He thought Bay’s feet had been butchered.

Ouch. That must have been tough to hear. :-\

But I'm glad Bay's more comfy now! And maybe he'll have some ideas for what would work for him come spring, huh?

Yeah - but I was prepared for it, after the beating I already took on the farrier forum ;~\

I’m not positive I’ll be able to keep him on for the long term, I don’t know if he really wants a permanent client, but maybe. I think he’ll find me a good farrier if he doesn’t want to do it. He’ll see me through the next few months at least.

Glad y'all are doing ok. It's good you didn't have to get out to get to the hospital for orientation. How's that going, by the way?

That was great of y'all to help your neighbor. I'm sure she appreciated it! We had ice overnight, and Joseph said my van looked like a doughnut this morning; glazed. SirKit spread sand over the front walk and the porch so we wouldn't break our necks if we had to go out, and so the UPS guy wouldn't slip, either. We're supposed to have icy rain or snow most of the week. It's supposed to clear out by Friday, which will be good, so Clare will have good weather for flying home.

He pulled a skeleton of the lower leg of the horse with all the foot bones and started ranting about the way the shoe sat and how it affected the inner workings of the foot, and swinging that leg around and holding it up next to Bay... who was looking at him a little wide eyed at that point.

You can tell he was a good teacher. ;~)

Heh...I can picture that. ;-)

Well, it all sounds very positive. Hopefully he'll make sure you remain in good hands where farriers are concerned!

Nearly eighty, and still passionate about the work he's done for forty years! That's a man I can respect!

Ask him if he'll come out and vet your new farrier. If the new farrier doesn't want to be vetted by the old guy, then you know all you need to know about the new farrier ...

The one I was babbling about - “The Stingiest Man in Town”, which just came back into print. By some obscure company in the UK....

Evening All - well the radar does not look very promising. The roads are still wet, speeds are way down, so far so good. Here’s hoping to keeping our power this time around.

Don’t know if 2J has lost power or not, but we talked to Becky on the phone... her power is out but she does have heat so she’s OK. Still pouring rain, icing up the trees and thunder. Weirdest weather she’s seen in a long time. Sounds like gunshots outside listening to trees breaking.
