The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Oh OK. I read where you’re just using the color scheme this year. But Big Ol could start you a collection by getting one for you for Christmas. ;o)

Oh I'd love to, but there are much better uses for the money. They run from about $200 and up. This one is almost $800:

Doesn’t everyone just pulled out the eight thousand ornaments and put all of them on the tree, every year?

Theme-ing just narrows them down: Just the gold and silver ones, or just the red and white ones, or in this case - the jewel tones with some homemade extras.

If this flooding actually pans out, you’re gonna have to drive around and get some pictures! ;-)

Well, pricey yes but it’s art, well done ethnic art. I like ‘em.

They could be made at home, given a good color printer, suitable backing and an unlimited supply of patience and time to assemble into ornaments.

Ah, that explains the ingredients. Hope it turns out to your satisfaction. A good cook tests the recipe early and often. :-)

Yowsers! Are they all a foot long? Do any of them come in ‘half-pints’?

Yes, there are smaller ones. I found some Christmas Ornaments , they're painted stamped tin. But part of being on a Christmas strike is a shoestring budget for decorations. That's why we're doing tissue paper, balsa wood, clearance ribbon, and craft paint. Plus the nifty ornaments I got at a red-eye sale (90+% off!!!) at Tarzhay last January. Anyhoo. I'm going to start on the tissue paper flowers and the topper star tonite - it'll be painted cardboard.

That’s a good suggestion... could certainly help me out with the brushstrokes that require brushes that I don’t have. :)

Good morning, fairly humorless day here for us... many inches of rain overnight and high winds expected. Been up since 1:00.

Just fed the horses out in the pasture, it’s real wet, but they feel better out there.

Positive tall tree thoughts, as always, appreciated. We’ll check in as we can, ready to bug out if we need to.

Ok, stay safe!

Not really looking forward to the drive in today. It’s still really icy out. But hey, that’s why I have an 8:30 meeting today, right? To encourage me?

big sheets of ice on the roads everywhere here :P ...
Got a call this morning (had my cell off yesterday :( Mom got thrown off a horse. 4 broken ribs and some bleeding in the brain (despite helmet). She is in ICU. Got a free helicopter ride and everything. I guess she did not enjoy it. She is somewhat awake this morning but wasn't at all yesterday. Neurological responses seem ok but the brain thing is a big question mark still. We just kind of waiting for more info now. Dad and sister will get to go in to see her in an hour and a half or so. I don't know much more but if you have any spare prayers laying around that you don't need we could use a couple.
Yay, monday

Prayers certainly for your mom Talon... Sounds like a bad wreck and I hope you hear good news this morning. Was she on her own horse? Does she usually ride?

Yeesh! When it rains, it pours (no pun intended Hair).

Prayers for the Talon family, for tall trees in wind, and a request for prayer for my stepdad.

My Mom called this morning. She was supposed to come this week to see the show but likely won't. My stepdad has the MRSA virus. Since he's had two quadruple bypass operations, there are obvious concerns. He's having tests tomorrow.

What scares me is that he's always worked like an ox, always having to do something. We often commented that if he ever quit, it would kill him. They gave up the store this last summer. He's had one health issue after another since then.

~sigh~

Hm...I’m thinkin’ the gal that usually goes out to Shelton probably won’t today. Look at this:

US 101 S - Mudslide, All Lanes Blocked, on ramp Blocked on US 101 southbound at State Route 8 since 4:47 AM, 12/03/07 for the next two hours
From milepost 361 to milepost 362

Isn’t that right where you turn off to go to Shelton - at Route 8?

Sounds like it isn’t gonna get much better where mud and flooding are concerned for awhile, either. :-\

Yeah - that’s right where 101 turns north and 8 goes on to the ocean. They’re saying also many blockages... you basically can’t get to the ocean from here.

According to the forecast, FWIW, the sustained winds are supposed to be about their highest, and so far, we’ve been fairly protected. I don’t think they’ve been bad. We may be benefiting from the shadow of the black hills. Hopefully that keeps up. We haven’t felt like we need to bail yet.
