Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
You got picked up right here when you went to OK, no? Trying to remember how much that was. I may go the same route...
Yeah - they picked me up right here. Was something like $40
OK, thanks!
It might be worth it this time around...if nothing else, I’d be a little more worried about just parking my car somewhere in the winter.
Then again, in a nice place, maybe I wouldn't be tryin' to keep 'em closed to keep warm. ;-) But I still think we're not candidates for a partially furnished, nice place set up by a Martha Stewart kinda gal...heh. This place is a dump, but in some ways that makes it a less stressful place to be. In some ways. So long as the roof stays intact, more or less. And stuff.
I started prepping the window frames in the computer room for painting. There should be a special place in hell for people who paint window hardware.
I took down the two glass panes in the garage and cleaned them up a bit. After I paint the frames, I’ll install them (they’re the second panes of double pane systems). However, I need two more panes made.
Oh well....time to fix lunch.
Well, you never know... if you had a nice place you might enjoy keeping it nice ;~)
But I agree that it’s nice... Here, they offered to put in new carpet when I moved in, and I decided I didn’t want them to. With all the trips in and out by critter and human alike it’s not going to stay pristine. I said “how about keep old carpet and no damage deposit?”
Got errands done, lunch? Excellent idea, been awhile since second breakfast.
I don’t think Miss Cat likes my seagrass runner. There’s a perfectly good patch of sunlight coming through the storm door and she stretches out beside the runner.
I was amazed at how many troops never thought of a pocket knife and a sheath knife before deploying. If I was their platoon sergeant, I'd tell them that if they have the money for a MP3 player, DVD, and a digital camera, they'd damn well better have those knives, too. A high-intensity flashlight is good, too, but those don't have to be too expensive. We are living in the golden age of high-tech flashlights.
I have a lockpick in my briefcase because I work the midnight shift, and I sometimes need to get into file cabinets that we don't have keys for. And since our own country is part of the battleground in this war, I refused to go totally disarmed, except when I have to go through a metal detector. I'd be fired for carrying a piece, even though I had a license, and even though they look the other way if the doctors carry.
So I have to stick with blades, which is much better than being naked. I have a Marfione titanium "charge card" in my wallet, along with a few sharp and pointy plastic objects in my briefcase. I also use them when I defrost the departmental refrigerator, because everybody else is too lazy to do it.
And a Cold Steel "safekeeper" in my briefcase, tucked away in one of the many hidden compartments. Sometimes only Cold Steel will do you you really need cold steel. In a sane world, I'd carry my FN FiveseveN openly.
My Kershaw 1670 Blur is just a pocket knife, but with the sharpest edge of any blade I've ever owned. But for general "in public" cutting, I have my little, non-threatening Victorinox "data" knife. If TSHTF, I also have a copy of my most important data with me. "Preparedness" in today's world should include consideration of your computer and your irreplaceable data.
There's probably some truth to that. And eventually I do want something "real", with an actual kitchen and all. I just think I'll want my own furniture and such....
But it's true, at some point, it wouldn't hurt to start looking. It might be tricky to find a place with a good fenced yard and a lenient pet policy, but they're out there.
Unh...which got me started looking at houses, which I shouldn’t do since I don’t have a down payment. There’s one with a kitchen all done in red and yellow. I think this place has damaged me, ‘cause I LIKE it. ;-)
Well, now starts the nervous time. Winds might be high off and on till tomorrow night.
Pray for our roots :~)
My back porch thingie is kerthumping...
Prayers for roots, indeed! And for power staying on...it’s too cold for power outages when electricity is the only source of heat!
Well, it might be ‘prickly’ to her, though there is no accounting for how our cats view things somedays.
I LOVE pre-lit trees, but I’m a glutton for punishment, because even with the pre-lit tree with clear lights, I add a string or two of multicolor lights, just for fun. ;o)
Good plan!
Now wasn't that a happy accident?
I picked the Wal-Martian up from work and we did a grocery run. As we came out we saw that the snow had begun! Got home in time to put our little snowman measuring stick up in the front yard. Got some Gulf shrimp on sale and I’m fixing to put it in to boil. Mmmm.
Yeah, it’s a little rough, but it should keep any winter slush off the floor...and it still smells a little.
Well, we’ll see how this goes but we’re somewhat optimistic that we’re one step closer to the goal of open door, roll out Christmas tree, plug in, enjoy. :-)
