The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

We have occasional earthquakes back home, but they’re small and very deep. I’ve not experienced one out here yet...

Ok, so maybe it’s not homeschooled...our kids might just be weird.

It's okay hon, that's not your fault...

Next I have to write a jail break (aided by a storm), but I figure as long as that’s even mildly realistic, who cares if it’s plausible?

Or Paul and Silas...

Heh...yah, while we’re on the subject of earthquakes... ;-)

Maybe I should move the scene to Washington instead. Heh...

Nah, they don't let folks just walk in off the street to those jobs, even if they had an opening. I'll be starting off as a cashier. She asked if I had any cashier experience. I laughed and said, yeah, I was cashier at Burger King when I was in college 35 years ago! But then I said I'm sure I could figure it out, since it's not rocket science. ;o)

That's all right. It's my first job in almost 30 years, and though I could probably get something in the mortgage bidness, I don't want to work full time, and that's what you have to do with those jobs. Being there, even as cashier, gives me the opportunity to take advantage of other positions as they open up. And ALL employees get a merchandise discount, so that will help as we continue work on the house. SirKit buys LOTS of stuff at Lowe's. ;o)

When I worked at Home Despot about 8 years ago they said their math shows the average homeowner/shopper would spend around 50 thousand over their life in the store. So if we pissed off a customer we just lost the company the rest of that 50k.

Uh, I wonder why anyone would say that.

Hmm, rejected by Lowes and Eharmony tests. Any other personality tests you failed?

I failed Radio Shack and Best Buy personality tests. Probably others, too. I took so many in Fort Collins I can’t remember them all.

Is there an award for that?

If I’d known how to cheat, I think I would have. They’re so stupid...

I think with the Radio Shack one, my problem was that I said honest people wouldn’t steal even if they were broke. Among other things.

If it was the grocery store, I guess I might have said yes. But Radio Shack? Who desperately needs anything they might sell?

In your case? Hopefully “gainfully employed and using your skills” counts as an award. Fort Collins was just stacked against you.

That is a trick question, right?

I don’t get it, either.

And it’s frustrating, ‘cause *besides* that, I loved Fort Collins. I had a heck of a lot more of a social life, for one thing.

I still keep in touch with some of the NaNo folks there. *snif* They were a nice bunch.

Teehee. That was my thought, too. I think it's a litmus test question.

‘Social life’? I am not sure what that is. Is that a measure of the number of folks chained up in your basement?

Yeah, though our NaNo folks here aren’t bad either. It was a great town. Just too much competition, what with a college and places ike HP in town, and other pressures. I guess. I don’t really know.

That’s a nice feeling.

Indeed - and well-deserved, too.

I wouldn’t know.

I don’t have a basement.
