The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Not really...not for a once-in-a-lifetime type of deal!

Speaking of trees, in late spring, OB planted a swamp white oak in the back yard. My only wish is that we are still here and in good enough health for me to yell at him about all the acorns the tree drops in 20 years when it starts producing :-)

"whinging" (rhymes with hinge-ing)

I remember having to tell people why I laughed the first time I saw the name of the town where H. Potter lived under the stairs.

The same people were trying to figure out whether it it was "Her-me-own" or "Her-me-won"...

Still...

One of these days I *will* go to Scotland. Also want to go back to Germany someday.

It’s that whole time vs. money deal, though. Usually don’t have enough of one or the other...or both, at the moment, really.

...Heh...the guy that just posted to you is the one I meant up-thread...he's like Marvin the Paranoid Android, minus any humorous attributes.

Not Valerie said that if we ~all~ didn't do the show next year maybe we could do the Macy's Parade.

Heh, trying an enticement, huh?

Clare went with her Scout troop one year for the Macy's parade. She like to have frozen her fanny off, because she didn't, as I had suggested, wear long underwear. ;o) But she still enjoyed the parade.

You can try the WiiTracker site, but it doesn't look good. You can get e-mails if something comes up. Wally World has a bundle, but it is truly spendy because there's a lot of stuff in it. There's always the possibility of giving a Gift Card from a vendor, saying that even St. Nick wasn't able to get enough this year, because the company didn't make enough. Don't know how that would fly.

Joseph got his earlier this year though dogged persistence. He called several stores every day for three weeks, and just happened to catch Game Stop when they had three available. We gave them the credit card info over the phone and then headed straight out to get it. Do you know anyone who works at any of the stores that sell it who could 'alert' you if one comes in?

One more reason to homeschool...my kids have a playstation II that they just got last year, and they think it’s the greatest. I did just see a wii at the local pawn shop for $300...not sure how that compairs to brand new...and then who knows where it’s been. :-)

Heh... we didn’t have any kind of game system til my brothers were teens or almost teens. Mom fought it that long but then had to give up.

Yeah - we’re getting a little nervous here... branches are starting to hit the house. Forecast is only for winds in the teens, but this feels stronger than that.

I don’t remember hearing anything at all about wind. I’m thinkin’ I need to locate my flashlight and fill some buckets...

OK, and what was that big bang?

One more reason to homeschool...

How so? The most techno-savvy kids in our youth group are the homeschool kids. They're the ones we go to when we want advice on what to buy or where to buy it.

FWIW, the Wii console (without the add-ons) retails for about $299. So the pawn shop isn't a bargain unless it's got extra stuff (extra controllers, etc.)

It wasn’t predicted, I don’t think. of course, they’re running around changing all the predictions now.

There are plenty of folks out to make a buck by buying systems and selling them on Craigslist for more than retail. Right now there are a number on there for about $350 and up.
