The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

To: no one in particular

OK, last night I dreamed I was at a gathering of some sort, and someone had a bottle of bourbon which they were saying was really, really good. They passed shot glasses around so everyone could taste, but no one would give me one. I ended up grabbing one from a guy that was nearby and taking a sip before he could say anything.

It wasn’t very good.

I’m not sure what this all means. I didn’t have any last night, either. ;-)

Mornin’, all. Having coffee and breakfast a bit late today. Then I’m gonna write to 50k before noon Mass, if all goes well!

I did some grocery shopping and bought lots more than what was on the list.

Guess I should go pot something.

Mm...groceries. I need to do that on my way home from church.

Cisco is playing the “Let me out!!” “Let me IN!!” “Let me out!!” “Let me IN!!” game today. It’s already getting old.

After talking to my cousin yesterday, I don't feel nearly so bad about the dents and flat tires on my mom's car. I still feel bad, just not nearly so bad.

Jim works for the local GM dealer in Chesaning. He's the transmission and air conditioning specialist. He says they do their best bodywork business during deer season, when hunters kick up more deer, who then are hit by more vehicles. They see more deer taken with cars than their own employees bag with guns.

One "hunter" (note the quotes, "moron" is more like it) put his loaded Remington 7mm magnum into its case, and illegally put it on the passenger seat, muzzle down. When he got to where he was going, he took it out of the case, and fired it through the floor of his Silverado.

The round went through the floor, both sides of the transmission, and the bell housing before it splattered against the flywheel. The wound wasn't fatal, because he drove the truck back 50 miles to the dealership. I don't know if he admitted up front what happened, but he did say the shifts were "a little rough". Jim said he could find no trace of either jacket or lead despite a total teardown of the transmission.

It's all patched up now, except for a new front carpet to replace the one with the bullet hole and powder burns. Based on this one incident, I'd have to rate the 7mm magnum as a poor anti-vehicle weapon.

Now I can hold my head up high when I say I hit a street sign. At least I didn't shoot my own vehicle (or some person) with my own rifle that I was transporting illegally and stupidly.

“as the Mossberg turns..” Good One Win-mag. That ‘bolt on a couple of accessories’ is becoming quite a project. I’ll hazard a guess there ain’t another one like it. The mated sight blocks give a much more finished look that the single unit sight block did.

heh heh... unbelievable...

I'd have to rate the 7mm magnum as a poor anti-vehicle weapon.

it's all a matter of shot placement... a .223cal 55grHPBT should not be able to drop a 200 lbs Buck... but it will...

actually, if'n I had to engage a vehicle, I have a stash of AP .303... my Mk 1 Type 4 Enfield is my "old reliable"...

Heh. It’d have to be squirrels. Haven’t seen any bunnies lately.

I got everything relatively cleaned up but it’s just going to get messed up again once I get some more potting soil. I’m taking a few divisions to werk tomorrow. Gots fresh basil and oregano....mmmmmm....

Taking your extras to work is always welcome; this time of year they can double as Christmas presents to your co-workers.

I thought I told y’all to talk me out of the Christmas show this year.

Today’s plan: Run Show from 2-5. Run Tech of Act 1 at 6 p.m.

We haven’t finished running Act 1 yet.

“Hold please...”

Sure - especially appropriate when so many have fireplaces and candles burning this time of year.
