Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!
O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.
O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.
O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!
A gooey grit, huh?
Gooey, yes. But 8000 is a vey fine grade abrasive. The abrasive itself is as fine as powdered sugar. I sprinkle it on my leather strop for "heavy duty" sharpening of knives before I switch to just the plain, smooth leather surface.
Looks like our rides today may be a bit damp. If we go. Go figger.
At least it’ll likely just be the usual misting, but still... :-\
Really strange weather for August!
Morning ALL:
Winmag - August: Brownells and Cicadas; Great tools you have there and skill & patience to use them correctly. I’ve seen, and you probably have as well, the ‘gunstore gunsmith’ screw in some bases, mount the rings, drop in the scope and tighten it all up - bore sight and pronounce it done in ten minutes (including the ‘extra’ time to find the parts). “She’s all ready to go” sigh. And a lot of folks really think it is. big sigh.
Hair - want to share the rain? We watered again yesterday. Hope you have good weather for the trail ride.
G’nad - recall the snakey stave at MoJAM, it’s starting to bend, this one just may make a bow. Did you accept the newjob and when do you start? (sorry if I missed it)
OT: grilling and racing today? Big BLT’s for us again last night. hmmmmm. Big ‘Maters.
I’m watering too... this drizzle isn’t enough to be meaningful precip for new grass seed under the trees.
Good morning!
Yep, that’s the plan....and throw in a baseball game too. If I’m not too lazy I’ll tape off thesunroom and sand the nail patches.
I haven’t gotten many slicing tomatoes yet...mostly plums and cherries. Think I’ll put a skewer or two of plum tomatoes and zucchini on with the steak.
My father had far more skills than I can ever hope for, at least as far as machinery like lathes and milling machines. He did "seat of the pants" stuff that left me stuned. My skill is mostly from patience, which comes from working with computers and customers. Both require patience and a degree of low cunning.
Afternoon folks.
Quiet-ish morning here. We were already at church with the choir warmin’ up and Luke decides he needs to throw up. Fortunately it was in front of the entire choir. Needless to say, I brought him home. He’s doin’ okay now.
Wife drove separately and took Nana to church. First time since before the hip dislocated. So, that’s a good thing.
Not as hot here. Still no rain in site.
Meanwhile, the defrapping continues...
Been strange weather all summer! Can’t say as I really miss the heat, but...it’s still strange. Guess we’re supposed to get more rain by the end of the week.
I wonder if this means the winter will be strangely dry. Somehow I doubt it...
Can I borrow a drill from you guys sometime in the next week or two? I finally bought some hooks to put up for coats and things...trying to get a bit more organized.
Regarding Luke...ick! Though I’m glad he’s doin’ okay.
I was talking to my b-i-l last night and he said they start at the new coast regional Catholic high school in Gulfport on Monday! YIKES that's early! They had the Grand Opening of the school on Saturday, and the Governor attended and gave a speech. George said it was a very good one, too! They also had the local Democrat Congress Critter give the Keynote address. He's one of the VEY few conservative, pro-life Dems in Congress, so that's why he keeps getting re-elected from the MS Gulf Coast. He's also one of the reasons that the money from FEMA was allowed to be used to help re-build Catholic and Christian schools as well as public schools. Apparently, it was fought hard by Kennedy, Pelosi and the usual suspects, but it went through.
St. Patrick's is the first of the new high schools to be completed. It was on the drawing board before Katrina, as were new high schools for east and west Harrison county, but it became more important to get them finished after the hurricane damaged the others so severely. The new ones are all above I-10, thus as least 10 miles from the coastline, just in case. ;o)
Thanks. He’s doin’ fine now. He came back from my mom’s with a cold and I guess we should have listened to him this morning when he said his tummy hurt.
Virginia starts school the Tuesday after Labor Day. Affectionately known as the “King’s Dominion Law” because the tourist industry lobbied for it. Counties have to get an exemption from the state to start earlier.
We hates it because it means going to school through the middle of June. And, the reality is that after Memorial Day, they aren’t doing anything anyway.
We’re public schooling ~one year at time~. We’ll see how it goes.
Wow, slow day...
Indeed.
I managed to completely goober up the new tv. When Comcast came the other day, he put in a new cable line but kept the DVD connected via the cable line running through the office into the living room (about 30 xtra feet of cable). But he told the wife “you can hook the DVD directly to the TV.”
Okie doke. So I tried to do that. After two hours of fiddling, reading the manual, going to Circuit City for an additional cable, reconfiguring it, connecting it back exactly as he had it, and then bypassing the cable box altogether, we don’t have TV in the living room. Nothing.
I did manage to get a service call for between 11-2. Mrs. has instructions for him not to leave until it is configured exactly as we want it.
And no, I won’t be paying for this service call. But thanks for asking.
Evening Corin - Comcast really goobered it up; good luck tomorrow. Thanks for reminding us of why we have a rabbit ears on top of our tv.
OT & G’nad - guess you saw the thread on the location of weather stations. I’m thinking our really local weather station must be on top of a black roof surrounded by asphalt. It registered was 105.2 today, felt hot but not that hot.
Heh. There’s that one across the street from Dr. Z’s....fun to watch the weather vane but I wouldn’t trust the temperature reading.
yes, I accepted the position...
Cain’t wait tuh see the snake next year...
GAU-8/A Avenger... jestbeautifulman...
