I was talking to my b-i-l last night and he said they start at the new coast regional Catholic high school in Gulfport on Monday! YIKES that's early! They had the Grand Opening of the school on Saturday, and the Governor attended and gave a speech. George said it was a very good one, too! They also had the local Democrat Congress Critter give the Keynote address. He's one of the VEY few conservative, pro-life Dems in Congress, so that's why he keeps getting re-elected from the MS Gulf Coast. He's also one of the reasons that the money from FEMA was allowed to be used to help re-build Catholic and Christian schools as well as public schools. Apparently, it was fought hard by Kennedy, Pelosi and the usual suspects, but it went through.
St. Patrick's is the first of the new high schools to be completed. It was on the drawing board before Katrina, as were new high schools for east and west Harrison county, but it became more important to get them finished after the hurricane damaged the others so severely. The new ones are all above I-10, thus as least 10 miles from the coastline, just in case. ;o)
Thanks. He’s doin’ fine now. He came back from my mom’s with a cold and I guess we should have listened to him this morning when he said his tummy hurt.
Virginia starts school the Tuesday after Labor Day. Affectionately known as the “King’s Dominion Law” because the tourist industry lobbied for it. Counties have to get an exemption from the state to start earlier.
We hates it because it means going to school through the middle of June. And, the reality is that after Memorial Day, they aren’t doing anything anyway.
We’re public schooling ~one year at time~. We’ll see how it goes.
