The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Well, the senior moment passed, we do have it on disc and there are numerous additional scenes.

In 1972 PBS had a rather lengthy Last of the Mohicans miniseries, ran about 8 hours as I recall. Naturally technically it couldn’t touch the movie, but is considered the most authentic dramatic presentation of the novel. There was very heavy rewriting in all of the shorter movies, simplifying the story, and switching romantic stories. Just two examples — Hawkeye has no romantic interests and Cora Munro was 1/4 black.

Sam Clemens famously hated the stories, because he did not like the older literary style of Cooper, and because Cooper did not hate all Indians. It is likely that he was not too happy about Cora’s race either.

I think we’re series enough.... of course we don’t know right now how our situation may change by next summer or the one after. Um... while I’d love a full week of rafting it might be more practical to do a camping/rent a house thing and have rafting day trips.

No, Corin, I’m not making announcements yet ;)

Personally, Corin, assuming for whatever reason I can’t go rafting, I’d rather hang out at the Canyon somewhere than in Vegas. ;-)

Dad gummit, Corin! I wish I'd known this two weeks ago!! I put a Star Wars lunch box in the Big Brothers Big Sisters pickup! It was from the Episode One movie, and was one of those that was shaped like the brown bag lunch bags. Not real big, but Joseph used to use it in school.

If I run across any other Star Wars stuff, I'll let you know.

Put an ad up on Craiglist for a lunchbox like that and say you’ll pay $15, then if someone wants more they’ll tell you.

That’s not a bad idea, if’n Craigslist has a decent presence there.

Just playing with my new old typewriter, tidying, and making a big pot o’ soup to have for lunches or dinners this week. Maybe I could come over later this afternoon for a bit.

Why is it that you can buy everything on Craigslist (even lederhosen) *except* for the one thing I was hopin' to find - just a basic, cheap office chair, so I can have one in the other room and one in here?
