The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

He’s coming in as a freshman, yep! I’m sure she’ll see him around. I just hope he doesn’t make a nuisance of himself. He’s such a loud mouth and show-off. *rolls eyes* L’il brothers...

I think Clare met him when I met you in Lebanon that one time, when we went to the little mall there. It was the very first time we’d ever mooted - we met at the Borders there, as I recall.

I see you’re back. ;-) How was the ride? Looks like you missed any back weather, but it’s rather confused out there.

Pony Pony complained a bit, but not much.

Trail ride pictures! Getting started... at the mounting station :~)

Can you believe out in the clearcuts it looks like fall color already?

Cougar tracks! Right hand side of picture, three visible tracks, starting at the bottom and moving "North". Dog print in the middle, and horse print on the left, for scale. Deer prints also.

Rest of pictures HERE I won't bog down the thread... got some good ones though, if you want to check them out! They're in order, just keep clicking next till you get hubby hosing his horse off at home, that's the end of today's activity!

Cougar? Eeek! Where’s Kim?

Geesh...I’m not ready for fall color! :-\

Though it’ll be nice if there’s some at home.

I bought another typewriter today - one with a regular American key layout. That was my big project. ;-) It matches my bike. This is a very important quality in a typewriter.

Those dogs were just fine. I took their picture because I thought the one walking with the stick was very cute.

Another couple on bikes had a dog that is going to be a real problem for someone. She grabbed him, but he shouldn’t be up there. He was very big, very aggressive, I wasn’t sure she was going to be able to hold him. We had been warned about him by another couple of bikers that they were coming. I in turn warned another family down at the trailhead who had a couple kids on ponies.

People should really know what their dogs are capable of handling and when they’re likely to be more trouble than it’s worth to have ‘em along. :-\

Yeah - they had two dogs... one was fine, a little skinny dobie mix of some kind, and he ran up and kindof barked and ran away, he was harmless. The other one though, looked like a St. Bernard/Malamute mix. Big Kujo dog.

Stuff like that is one of the reasons I don't bring our dogs along, though other riders do... you're just not in a position to control them, and who knows who you're going to meet.

That’s interesting the way Remington made the shotguns different to distinguish between the servicable guns the military used, and those that might be purchased after military service by the same man for sporting purposes.

Yeah, I noticed fall colors in a few of the trees when I was driving back from Boston this morning. It won’t be long, and I was kinda hoping for those cooler temps today. It was HOT and vey dry out today.

We met at Borders first, I think, and then went over to the ritzy little mall there and wandered around a bit. They had a store with all kinds of educational toys and games and things, among other things.

I think there’s an L.L. Bean outlet there now. I may have to hit that while I’m home...

Well, we took ours out hiking the first time today. Wasn’t entirely sure how they’d handle but they were awesome. Picked up on it really fast, were friendly toward kids and dogs... they were awesome.

All ready for the uberhiking weekend next week. Did I mention? I convinced Talon to take me to Rocky Mountain National Park to camp for Labor Day. W00t! And we’re gonna meet up with my friend Crystal and her husband, so I am very happy.

Oh man...I’m so jealous!

I miss Fort Collins sometimes. *snif* And the Rockies and all. One of these days maybe I’ll do something like talk Margaret into coming out for a road trip to Colorado and back, and spend a few days there hiking and biking and see the parish there again and all.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... riot gun...

After finding that Winchester Model 12 riot gun, I started checking out the big gun shows in Michigan (both of them). It was easy to move up and down the aisles, just checking for shotguns in racks that were a lot shorter than the rest.

Of course since nobody except union members has money in Michigan now (including me), the pickin's have been slim in the last dozen years of so. Still, even though they're far from pristine, I managed to save a couple of pieces from loss and/or destruction.

Trail ride pictures!

Does Bay always have his "happy horse ears" on, or do you wait for him before taking the picture?
