The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I want to knit a scarf. Mostly because of my addiction to fiber arts and fiber. There are these great novelty yarns, see... I must buy some. But if I do, I’ll want to do something with them. By deciding to better myself by learning how to knit I’ll have a splendid reason to buy more yarn. *big cheesey grin*

Part of my trouble is that I have the mindset that this place is so temporary that its hard to get motivated to make it nice or even just truly settle in. But it’s making me crazy, having things in chaos.

I do want a nicer place, and there are serious limits to what I can do with where I am, but I might as well make the best of it while I *am* there, and develop some techniques and good habits that’ll help when I finally do get a nicer space.

Heh...and this is one reason why I'm a little afraid to learn...

Exactly! We’ve tried a lot of experimental things with our projects specifically to get experience for later. Yeah, we probably won’t be in this house in five years. But while we are here it should be nicer. And it’s a good feeling to add something to where you live.

Indeed it is!

I don’t know how much I’ll really *add*, as in physical work done to the place. It’s a sagging cardboard house, after all. But I at least need to get used to thinking in terms of ways of organizing. I think I need more shelves and boxes and such. And it sure would be nice to have a table so I sort of have a workspace in the kitchen. I don’t have a counter, after all.

I really wish I had an oven, but I’m afraid to even broach that with the landlord. He’d be liable to start, leave my kitchen in shambles and not get back to it for a coupla months...

You need a convection oven. Apparently they really do make some that are more than glorified toaster ovens, I understand you can even make cookies in them.

I’d like to learn to knit. One of my homeschooling mom friends knows how. I’ll get her over here one day and get her to teach me!

Scarves make great gifts, too, so by learning to knit, you’ll be doing an altruistic thing. ;o)

Ya know...that could be worth looking into. Mostly I miss being able to bake cookies and pizza...and I think those are supposed to be even better than a regular oven for such purposes.

You really should; plus even when you have a real oven, it would be nice to be able to use something smaller for a pizza, wouldn’t it?

Don’t tell theotherdwarf, but I’ve got to find a creative/artsy outlet of some sort. Writing and photoshop are cool, but I needs more.

Yarn will not be involved.

I’m thinking painting. But I doubt that Bob Ross will be involved.

Alright, but if any of it involves body parts being pressed to canvas then I request you never speak of it here.
