The Hobbit Hole XXXIV - But better than rain or rippling streams...

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:52:15 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

Well it all started at the morning meeting...we were informed of some “unauthorized entries.” So at the group lunch, at our table we started talking about it and one lady said the security guard gave her a hard time about the 9mm she had on the front seat (”the sign says ‘concealed’. You can see the gun, it’s right there!”)

None of the few women at my work are that cool. Some of the guys are though and the expressions I get when I talk about guns are priceless sometimes.

One of the guys at the other table said we were scaring them. Might have been at that part where she had targets made out of pictures of her ex.

Gots to find baby gift!

Seems like they's enough talent around here that you could hire somebody to stitch you up a baby blanket.

I'm just sayin' is all...

According to the latest wisdom of the Cult of Suburban Motherhood, keepers of all Truth and Knowledge in the Cosmos... "quilts" and other forms of blankies and fluffy bedding are on the outs due to SIDS risks. Most of the ones I've made recently have ended up draped decoratively over the back of a rocking chair or similar. Oh well. Saves them from spit-up, I suppose.

Anyway, fwiw.

Not ever being in the Cult of Suburban Motherhood, I had no idea that would be a problem. Guess that also knocks out the this too. Drat!! LSA

No, you don’t cover the sleepin’ baby in a heavy blanket. That’s what sleepers are for. And you do have to be careful about the crib padding. But you also don’t take a child out all exposed into the elements.

What’s the verdict this year? Sleeping on their backs or on there stomachs? It was different with both of our boys.

Verdict this year is no bumpers in da crib. They have these silly, "breathable" mesh thingies snap in to keep appendages from getting caught in the crib rails but aren't nearly as fashionable as the matchy-matchy bumpers. It's just nuts. "Comforters" are getting hung on the wall as decoration. :)

I don't make this stuff up, I just report what I'm told. (had lunch just this week with one of our org's newest moms - and they know ~everything~)

Do they make 'em in queen sized? That sounds awfully comfy.

My favorite gifts lately (besides a crochet afghan... with lots of breathy spaces in them) has been Boppy Pillows with a couple of slip covers. You may have seen them and the NewMom may have one already. Anyway, they rock and are always well-received - whether they breastfeeding or bottle feeding.

Oh I know you’re not making it up. We were amazed at how much the experts had changed their opinion in the 10 years between Jr. and Luke...

My basic thought is child rearin’ is an art, not a science. There is no one size fits all model.

Our church used to be big on “Growing Kid’s God’s Way.” We agree with Dr. Laura that it’s child abuse. Nursery workers used to tell us that the most unhappy children were the GKGW kids because their mamas insisted they eat on a particular schedule...not when they were hungry.

Nice! I need a nice under size 1911 for carry. Iam thinking a Springfield but those Kimbers are nice. I have carried my sister-in-law's Springfield and it was great. The shorter grip makes it bump into things less when I sit down. However I have a few more guns to buy Jen before it is my turn again ;P

I guess I missed out on a range report of her newest toy.
It’s Springfield XD40 subcompact. She likes it a lot. Still getting use to the larger grip (than her other guns) but she can tell about that.
I liked shooting it quite a bit. Shot a nice little group. Did not put as much through it as I would have liked since I was instructing two new people that day.

I think another XD is going on the list too. Full size or compact, I have not decided. It is a long list though.
