FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Thanks.

I'll try to have Bob get some video of both of them. Slick has a very long stride and moves very smoothly at a trot and a canter, we'll see how he does with a rider.

Well, off to work, hi ho, hi ho, etc. :)

Good morning.

We had a bit of rain thru the night too. Not enough for anything except more humidity.

I’m having some trouble over on the HF posting....I was wondering what to do??? Where the “reply” button was is all I get is FWD. Can you ask some one over there what to do for me?

Everyone is having that, Becky... the forum is only half working right, since it’s been back. No PMail, lots of other things not working right. And who knows when they’ll fix it.

Only the first post has a reply button, and the reply at the bottom of the page, so you have to use one of those.

Quite a bit of progress for one week. They are looking very good.

So what is he going to do with Miss Friday?

The market is really slow on horses. I have Jody listed on the net and not one reply. She is priced under a thousand too.

Hot here too, still having T'storms every few days. Sure has been a wet year. Still a lot of hay fields that didnt get baled.

How did Bay hold up on your trail ride?

A fellow I know, who auctions off timber, came over and we walked my 5 acres of woods. Not really a lot of big trees and I would only get a few thousand for it. I was hoping to clear it out and make more pasture.

Bay as OK on the trail ride. He’s fine, all things considered. Could be in better shape I think, but so could I.

Are you still going to go through with clearing it then?

It’s a bit of a mess cleaning it up to make pasture out of woods, takes a few years of work usually.

Thanks. Friday is broke to ride but no real training at all, the folks who raised her and had her for eleven years basically just taught her to go forward and stop :) He'll be despooking her and teaching her some basics.

You are right, the market is very slow although it is picking up some I think. I have had a lot of inquiries on Friday (her looks of course) but everyone wants a riding horse and I won't even admit she's broke to ride. I really wanted to sell her as a broodmare but that doesn't seem likely.

Not sure now..If it was worth more, then I could see going to all the trouble. He might come across a buyer who would be interested. At least for firewood.

I hear ya about the "shape" I was doing pretty good, until I fell off! lol

Young stock (weanlings and yearlings) seem to be the ones that are not selling. The ecomony and the closing of the slaughter houses has really had an impact. Well broke saddle horses still demand a pretty hefty price though, at least the ones I see on the ‘net. Of course, they might not be selling either.

Just a note to update. Lace went on her first trail ride today. Bob says 2-3 miles only. He rode Prez and Troy rode Lace. Her only scarey moment was when the neighbor’s (at the end of the street) horse ran up to the fence wearing a fly mask. After her tantrum last week, I doubt Troy is relaxing much on her yet though.

Hey, that's great about the trail ride, and funny about the fly mask. She must've thought it was the Boogie Horse. Troy sounds like a smart man. It don't pay to get too comfortable on a green horse {Says the voice of experience}

Sounds like Lace is moving along quite well.

Lots of boogers out there in the big wide world, for her to see. She will do fine with a nice steady experienced horse along to guide her.

A lady in Indiana emailed me about Jody. Heres hoping they are interested and will give her a good home.

I agree. It's most like a matter of time. I have no doubt that Miss Ruby will meet the challenge. Isn't Ty growing into a really love boy? Photobucket

Prez seems to have a calming effect on any horses he goes out with. The girls (Tracey and friends) always wanted Bob and Prez along for hairy rides because of that.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for Jody.

Heh... horses running up can tend up set off any horse, not sure if they’re going to stop at the fence or meet a new friend. I’ll never forget when I was riding around Bob’s house on Bay and a group of donkeys ran up. He was a little edgy but OK when they ran up, but it was when they started braying that I thought I was going to have to pull him down, quivering, out of a tree. ;~)

Well, today ecurbh and I get to be Fair Parents.

We’ll be with Jesse today while she’s at the fair. She has to be there all the time when the fair is open, and Bob and Kay can’t be there today, so we’ve been recruited. :~)
I’m sure we’ll take lots of pictures. She has Charlie the Alpaca there again of course, and she’s entered some artwork and a couple of fleeces.

She’ll have posted hours that she’s on herdsmanship and has to be in the barn to check on food and water and clean up the stalls and the aisleways for her group and answer questions, but the rest of the time she can walk around.

Kay said the good news for us is the kids have to do all the work, we’re not even allowed to clean stalls or do any of the work. :~)

Have fun!

Those were really cool pictures of the Alpacas, you took last year.
