I bet! I hope that’s a temporary solution, not the final one!
Did I tell you guys before how they blew up a horse who died on trail with dynamite? They figured smaller pieces would break down and get taken away by scavengers quicker than the big carcass would... and they were afraid of attracting bears or cougar to it, who might get protective of it, right on the trail...
You’d think they could at least come back with a backhoe and shove the lime a little farther over it. But I guess it’s out of sight, out of mind. Nobody lives up there and most people are whizzing past it in cars so they don’t have to stand it for too long.
And no, you didn’t tell us about the dynamited horse! What a novel idea! It makes sense, but I’d’ve never thought of it in a million years. I sure wouldn’t’ve wanted to’ve been anywhere around when they did that. I imagine that created quite a stench over quite a large area. When did this happen?
Been several years ago now... I only heard about it. The horse had died far enough from a road that getting a rendering truck or a backhoe in was not possible, no one wanted to quarter it up and pack it out, I don’t think, and they decided to just blow it up in place.
The biggest problem they thought was the fact that it would attract predators right to the trail where people and horses would be. They were quite concerned about bears just camping on it.
I’m told Bob went through a month later and it was like it had never been there. He wasn’t even real sure where it had been, he couldn’t tell.
I wonder where they stuck the dynamite. ;o)
I don’t know.
You have seen the exploding whale video, haven’t you?
NOOOOOOOO! I’ll bet that was nasty for a while! Got a link?
It has quite a following and an "official" web site ;~)
Nah, I can’t watch it at work but I’ll definitely watch it when I get home.
~chuckling~
I think the reporter who covered it should have gotten a Pulitzer. ;~)
I wonder if it's got Arabian in it cuz the face is 'dished'.
Just one more to go. Baby-Girl looks like she's ready to explode. LOL.
Hey now... you can’t just disappear for months and then pop back in to announce babies, with no story and no pictures! :~)
So didja get all your mowing done yesterday? I got home yesterday and my nephew had mowed ours. Woo hoo!
I went by his house later on and talked to him and he’s going to go get me a load of crusher-run limestone gravel to put around the barn. He’s got a small dump truck that’ll hold 8 or 10 tons so that ought to be plenty to spread around the front where the horses like to loiter and make a mess. I’d already had a load of bigger gravel spread there a couple of years ago when I put the geo-textile down but it’s big enough rocks that it gets picked up in the manure fork when I clean up so it needs a new layer there. This stuff will be 1/4” or smaller. It’s more like rock dust or real coarse sand. When it gets packed down and rained on it’ll set up almost like concrete and be much easier to keep clean.
I’d show you the pictures, but you can’t see photobucket either!
I got about a quarter of the front pasture done. It’s all but dried up now, so I’m cutting down the weeds and spreading the poo, and I’ve closed them out of there probably till we get rain again. So they’ve just got the back forty now.
WOW!!! That’s exciting!! Rocky Mountain horses are gorgeous. Do did you buy the mama already bred? Just wondering because you were wondering if the baby was part Arabian. I hope it turns out to be chocolate with flax mane and tail. Those are real head-turners.
I’m assuming the first baby is doing well. Thanks for the update, but we REALLY do need pictures!
Some photobucket pics I can see. It all depends on what’s in the album with them. Try it and see!
I should go clean it out, since I'm going to be using that now, and get rid of all the videos and make some sense of it.
Hair, I disappeared for YEARS. I just recently got back online. I have to get to Wal Mart for a new scanner cuz my old one’s ruined from being in storage so long. THEN I can send pix.
I know you disappeared for a long time. You were moving back and rebuilding your house last we talked.
So what’s been happening with you, and all these pregnant mares? How’s the family? How’s Markie?
Daddy is a sorrel QH? He was an auction horse. Traded 2 saddles to 'buy' him. He was in poor condition when I got him now he's massive.
He's a good boy. The little twinnies have climbed aboard him , he sighs and starts walking...no bit, just reins.
