FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Uh... If I got half way up that they may have to rescue me with a helicopter. No way! How’d they get it there? Any road in there?

Another shelter on the trail had this huge steel ladder in it that went from the floor all the way up to the upper edge of the overhang.

Ahh, but you forgot the bear tracks!

We saw a small bear track in this shelter too, or at least that's what we assume it is. We think this is a hind track, showing the heel...

Some more pics from this shelter...

There probably was at one time but it's long since grown up. Carolyn had to give it a whirl too...

Not me! That ladder was too shakey!

That ladder looks like it’s all one piece! I just wonder how you get a ladder like that in there.

Bear tracks too? Man - this ride had everything!

What about the landslide?

A different shelter. This one had some large canine tracks in the dust in the back of it, either somebody's dog or a big-@$$ coyote. I don't think we have wolves around here...

They were in the dust by the back wall, near where Carolyn was standing...

Supposedly they found some of the oldest human remains in N. America in this shelter. Here's a pic of some grinding holes that were in there...

It was actually in 2 pieces, with 4 big bolts or rivets in the middle of both sides, but STILL, even those were huge.

What about the landslide?

I think the landslide was Kari's reference to Faith and Blade nearly sliding off the side of the cliff during the bee run.

Blade is such a good boy, he went and did everything I asked him without pitching a fit or balking in the least. I don’t think he was even mildly upset during the bee rush. Have I told you lately how much I love this horse?

The guys taking a break while we took pictures...

And I liked this one of Bob. The way the light was hitting him, it kind of reminded me of one of those movie moments when the heavens open and the angels sing and God reveals something very special to you...and he is that. :o)

Awww... that’s sweet about Bob. I’ve liked him ever since he was just a kid and was chasing your truck through the field. And you called him Bob the Biter :~)

Yep, Blade deserves to be bragged on a bit. He was a very good boy.

I was pleased with Bob too. He did everything I asked, even when it was something silly and totally stupid, like when I asked him to put his head between this tree and this big hunk of swiss cheese rock...

He was going to try to go through there so I had to tell him whoa and just stand there. He has to put up with a lot from me!

He still will bite anything he can get his teeth on if he gets a chance.

Wow. I have always envied you all and your rides but I think now I need much more sedate partners and trails :)

Everybody reaches that point in their life sooner or later, but at least you can live it vicariously through us.
