FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I’m with you, I can’t imagine starting a family at 40. But I think that is becoming a more common thing then it use to be.

I’ve got to get my horses to the vet for coggins, and yearly stuff....and the farrier, I still haven’t called. Heard Harley’s shoes clanking. First thing Mon, I’m really going to call.

Great pictures! Did Harley do well in his run then? Looks like Dot was probably not in the money ;~)

~sigh~ about not liking the guy who’s interested in Harley, it’s hard, really hard, when that happens. I sure hope the right buyer comes along.

He did pretty good, beings as it was the first time she ran him at a place with all the commotion. He was handling everything very well. His run wasn’t in the money, but then, there was no money at this:). He could place tho in a 4D.

Yeah, I don’t know what I’d do if this guy showed up with the money for him. I don’t think he will....crossing fingers....I have been impressed with this guy and his family tho. They live out here, and they ride all the time....even in the hot hot summer. So they do use their horses, which is a good thing. He brought his very young daughter over to look at Harley and asked her if she liked him...I’d say Harley would be too much horse for the kid. The horses they have look OK...it’s just the way he was riding around out there that bothered me...racing, heavy handed, just basically a rough cowboy. My luck he’ll want him. I hope I’m not called upon to make that decision, I don’t think I would do it.

Oh and I should mention, Dot was terrific. Even tho she was in season too. She definitely got her daddy’s personality. I think Tucker even wacked her with the flag, and she didn’t do anything. JP was OK with her trotting too...Tucker just wanted to walk.

It is kindof a job to feed them like that... but I don't think they'll need that for long, just enough to encourage them to eat. They're not 'getting it' otherwise yet. This afternoon I mixed some of the canned food into kindof a mush with the formula, but that was rather a mess... I think I got more ~on~ them than ~in~ them. But I guess they'll clean it off later and get it that way. :~)

It's hot here... topped 90. Have all the fans on and the windows open.

But it makes everyone just want to nap...

Later, I finally opened the door and let Gidget stick her head in. She's been just glued to them since we brought them in, but I could tell in a motherly way, not a "is it a mouse" way. She tries to get them to sit still for grooming and such, and they're really not afraid, they paw at her though.

Sorry... you know me when I have something new... picture overload!

Yeah - do what you think is right. How old was the daughter?

She is a good dog.. I think she wants to be a momma. I was a little nervous though at first, I’ve seen how lethal she is on mice... I want to be sure that’s not what she’s thinking!

The other dogs haven’t been all the interested either way... Barkley just wants at the food that’s in there.

That’s a lot of horse trotting for a kid that little! She’s a great horse. Heck, I was impressed that you could bring her over and put her in one strand of hot wire. ;~) But no panels. That’s interesting.

That’s the thing... they’ve hissed at me when they don’t want me to grab them, but not her. They walk right up to her.

In other words.. they’re morons who would not have stood a chance if she’d found them in the barn, I don’t think. ;~)

Well, if that horse has a hole it’s that you can’t put her in panels. She destroys them in no time putting her head thru and pushing. I don’t know how many she bent all to heck here.

She is a wonderful horse, and Tucker will learn a lot on her.

LOL!

You really think she would have treated them differently if she had found them in the barn? That’s interesting.

Huh - I wonder if she’d be the same on wood fence. We’ll... Electric’s easy.

I do... they chase the feral cats when they see them, the house cats have a more protected status in their mind... I think it would have been a bad scene if she found them out there.

The pictures are great. Harley looks so good. And the boys look like they are having fun.

The poles with the tires are “patience poles”. That’s where the horses learn to stand tied. A rope is attached to one of the tires fairly high up and they are clipped to it. The tire will rotate so they can’t get wound around the pole and all the tires keep them from getting hurt if they get pissy and decide to fight it. Some of the young ones think 30 seconds standing tied is enough :) and they learn here they can’t go over or under or away.

Looks like you have a babysitter. I expect next they will all be curled up with Gidget sleeping. Then you’ll break her heart if you give any of them away :)

I put a few even better pictures here: No need to clog up this thread any more... but I can't get over Gidget and these monsters.
