This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
We had a great ride... pics in a minute here... :~)
Can you believe out in the clearcuts it looks like fall color already?
Cougar tracks! Right hand side of picture, three visible tracks, starting at the bottom and moving "North". Dog print in the middle, and horse print on the left, for scale. Deer prints also.
Rest of pictures HERE I won't bog down the thread... got some good ones though, if you want to check them out! They're in order, just keep clicking next till you get hubby hosing his horse off at home, that's the end of today's activity!
One other bit of excitement, we were letting ecurbh and Cyn go first for a bit, and I had actually given ecurbh the camera to try to take some of me, so he was turned around in the saddle trying to get that to work (No they didn’t come out) and two bicycles came up in front of him. Cyn spooked and spun around, and I thought they might end up in my lap! But she didn’t and hubby stuck in the saddle, and Cyn is just fine to pass by them, they just surprised her, and she’s didn’t like being in ‘charge’ up there. So Bay and I led the rest of the way, and no pictures of me were had, again. Oh well...
Good to hear from you Squarebarb! You’ve been kinda scarce around here lately. Your sister’s visit sounds great. I’m glad y’all got to have a good ride. The trip to San Antonio sounds like fun too. I went there years ago when my sister and her husband lived in Big Spring in their Air Force days. I really enjoyed it. The Riverwalk is just gorgeous!
LOL!! Messed ya up didn't I.
But now that I have a decent internet connection here at home, I can FReep a little more easily so I guess y'all will be hearing from me more on the weekends than you used to. I can even upload pics and videos from home now without dying of old age first. ;o)
I spent most of the day yesterday online looking at new trucks and compairing them. It's really cool how you can do that now. You can print off a copy of the actual sticker from a truck at your local dealer. I'm planning on using that information to get a low price quote from Consumer Reports so I can negotiate a decent price from the dealer.
After we saw what was available and where, we went and drove a new black 2007 Dodge 2500 Crew Cab 6.4 diesel 4X4 yesterday evening, and I'm in LOVE! The only reason I didn't buy it right then is because we're leaving to go on vacation to Colorado this coming weekend and thought it'd be best to wait until we got back.
The one of those weird hairy moss-covered tree things was cool too. They look like something out of a Stephen King movie about weird body-snatching aliens.
Oh, and that mounting station is really nice too. I’ve never seen anything like it. Around here you’re just on your own as far as that goes.
Those cougar tracks are scary too. I’d hate for one of those buggers to jump out from behind a tree on ME! They could take a horse down!
We’re already getting fall color on the trail here too...waaaay to early...and everything else is just brown and burnt up. I’m afraid we’re not going to have a very pretty Fall this year.
Ol’ Bayman DOES have a nice fast walk! He’s moving on pretty good there. That’s a good trail speed to me.
Yeah, bicycles will spook the best of them sometimes. I’m glad Ecurbh didn’t get dumped. I saw the picture of the lady with the dogs too. Sometimes encountering hikers on the trail is a spook-producing event, ESPECIALLY if there are dogs or backpacks too. I guess just anything that they aren’t expecting to see kinda makes most horses a little nervous.
Good morning!
I think Cyn’s about 15 hands... ecurbh’s about 5’10”. She looks big because I’m downhill from her. :~)
A bit of a risk of getting your knees whacked on the way out of that one, I think they're really cool :~)

I know.. they give me pause! Especially going into that really tight closed in trail that was right after. We may not have seen those tracks but a couple women at the trail head had given me a head's up to look for them there. I was skeptical at the trailhead, thought those two women had probably just seen big dog tracks.... but they were right! Can't be anything else!
Bay was walking out really fast. Feeling good! I chuckle at the end because I had told ecurbh at the start “Ack - I forgot to wear a bra, we won’t be able to do very much long trotting!” But when Bay was walking out there, of course, ecurbh is trotting pretty fast to keep up, and he says to me “I thought we weren’t going to do much trotting!” “Heheheh”
I said “But I’m not trotting, I’m racking!” ;~)
I took a picture of that lady with the dogs because that one dog with the stick in his mouth was so cute! They were nice dogs... nothing scary about them. There was another couple with a BIG dog who was not good. She got ahold of him, and I’m glad she did. I had been warned about them by two bikers.... that the people weren’t realy sure how the dogs were going to handle horses... Well, I hope they learned they really can’t bring that dog with them up there. Too many other users for a bad dog.
We passed a lot of bike traffic and some other horses, it’s busy now that we have to ride on weekends! And the ones that spooked Cyn, she didn’t give a second look to once she recognized what they were.
She didn’t hear them coming and Bay always does, he’s always on alert and if they’re coming fast he’ll just stop short of a corner. I can’t always hear them yet when he does, but I’ve learned to trust him. Not sure if Cyn will ever be that good, she prefers to have Bay do her looking :~)
Hair and Ecurbh, so glad you guys went for a ride. Looks like the weather was nice. I saw some trees here that were turning already. Wonderful pictures and the dog with the stick was cute. Lab all the way. I see the heeler was eye-balling you guys. lol
Pretty nice day and we had rain yesterday, which cooled things off. Alison is showing, so I am heading out to go watch her.
Good luck to Alison... I’m sure she’ll be cute as a bug’s ear :~)
How are you, today?
Amy doing trail on PJ. She won second. She did win the 19 & older and the 30 and older pleasure classes. Pretty big classes, so we were really happy.
This is Dakota on his new horse "Hes the Bartender". A 3 yo reg. QH. He won third out of 24 in the walk-trot jack-pot pleasure class. He won $53. Pretty good for a horse that has only been to 2 shows. Chasser (barn name) lost a front shoe last week, so Dakota didn't take him in any other classes. They pulled the other shoe off and he was acting a little ouchy. This is the horse that is staying at our place.
The Goodyear blimp flew over, so I had to get a shot of it.
I came to town just to catch up. Yuck...being without internet is the pits.
Great great pictures from everyone.
We’re tried everything. It’s not the phone jack or the cord. it’s definitely the puter:(. Mack will look into it tomorrow. We think maybe getting DSL at the house will make it that we do not have to get a new computer. Cross fingers. That will be the easiet fix.
Hair. YOur horses and trails look great.
I have to tell you something funny. I forgot that Travis and Charlie were having a poker party down here, so I’m sitting here freeping with a bunch of men behind me playing poker:) I told them to go on as if I wasn’t here and they are taking me up on it:)
Any way. hope someone is around tonight for a bit, I’ve missed everyone.
Becky
I'm here... Mowed today, bathed two dogs, Rosie's coming over in a bit so Cisco can play...
Took this picture of this CUTE baby squirrel. He's onl half as big as the adult red squirrels. That wood next to him is a 2x2, so it's only actually an inch and a half.
