FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Hi, everyone. Been really busy finishing up some bookkeeping so I've been scarce. (love the pictures btw, except the slugs -- LOL. ) Anyway had first refresher riding lesson yesterday with my youngest. Fun.

We are headed to Decatur in the a.m. to just take pictures at the BLM mustang sale. I will post some when I get home. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

We had rain at home this morning as well. Two really nice showers. We're thankful.

Y’know, New England IS awfully cold in the winter. :-) What is minimum wage down in Texas?

So I picked him up and he decked me.

Oh jeez. Leave it to kids! I'm a little worse for wear this morning, in addition to my lower back, my face is sore where I hit the ground. My nose and my cheek bone, which is the same one I fractured when I was a kid and got kicked when I fell off.

Hey, that’d be great if Bay’s feet are doing well enough that he’s not ouchy barefoot. Hopefully that’ll hold true this time as well. I think it’d be a great idea if you could pull his shoes in winter. You’d still need to have him trimmed fairly often to keep them from getting all out of shape, but that would be much less expensive than keeping him shod all winter when you’re not riding him. I know it’s not about the money, but it’d be better for his feet too.

Wow Beaker, it sounds like you had one hell of an afternoon! I’m glad nothing got seriously hurt...other than your pride. ;o) I’ve never seen a horse react that way to a bad saddle fit either. But you know, Becky had that mare that would pitch fits like that because she had some problem with her back. So I guess it was something similar to that. Strange!

Dang Cindy, you’ve got tough grandkids! I’ll bet that was funny when somebody asked you what happened and you told them that your 4yr old grandson decked you. LOL!

I heard that on the radio yesterday. I thought about going too since Decatur is only about a 20 minute drive for me, but I've got too many horses as it is. I sure don't need to be looking at more. I'll look forward to your pictures.

We got a good rain last night too. First one in a long while. I sure was glad.

Well, I’m going to get up outta this chair and go feed the horses. I didn’t plan a ride for today so I don’t know what I’ll do, but there’s several things around here that need doing...like cleaning house :-p but I don’t know if I’ll do it or not. Talk to y’all later...

This horse is one to panic hard when something goes wrong. But she hasn't thrown any fits quite like that since she was two, I was told. She's 6 now.

Good Morning.

Still very hot and humid here. I did venture out to the store and the temp was 95! Too dang hot to do anything outside. The online game I play, had an expansion preview weekend, so I don't feel guilty about staying inside.

Have a great weekend everyone!

If a horse gives any hint of rearing, I would not even attempt to ride it. One of my friend's horses reared up and fell over on me years ago. She had went up a few times and I was ready for her, then she caught me off guard. Luckily she landed on my leg and not my whole body. My whole thigh was black and blue for weeks. I still have an indention where the injury was. Before that incident, I would ride anything on 4 legs.

So glad you were not hurt bad. Just be real careful. People have been killed by rearing horses.

'Mornin! I just thought I'd pop back in for a minute to share a video clip I took this morning of my sister-in-law's hummingbird feeder. Apparently this is migration time and there are tons of them coming through here on their way (farther) south. She has a couple of feeders out and there were at least a dozen birds swarming around it when I got there this morning to feed the horses. I swear they look like bees!

Well, I'm off to town. Talk to y'all later...

Hello everyone!

My sister is visiting, we borrowed a neighbor’s horse for her and I rode Buck and we had a fantastic, lovely ride.

Now we are going in to San Antonio to go to the opera with friends and kick up our high heels.

Then she has to go back to her job, hubby and two sons. But in the meantime we have been having a great time.

I see someone is talking about a horse rearing and I agree, if they start that business don’t even get on them. Let a professional trainer handle them.

I had one go over backwards with me once and am lucky to be here typing away on the keyboard.

Hair have a good ride.

Frog funny to see you here on a Sat....uuummmm it is Sat right?”)

Man did we have a storm last night, lots, and lots of rain, 4-5 inches. Bixby was under water, drained off now. Lot’s of thunder and lightening....fried my computer at home:(. I won’t be around much unless I’m in town, till we can get ours fixed or get a new one. The computer still works, we just can’t get on the internet.

Becky

The lightening probably fried the jack in the wall or the line itself. Have you checked that out? If it’s the modem, you can try an external one, works the same.

Hi everyone!

i'm still alive, limping, but alive. :-) I'm a lot stiffer today, there's a residual ripple effect, it seems, from trying to compensate with the sore bits. My neck is stiff, I think from doing the face plant.

Frog, you're right, I really shouldn't have gotten on her after she pitched the rearing fit in the barn. I don't know what I was thinking. I think secretly I was hoping that she wouldn't actually try to do that while I was on her. My trainer was trying to tell me to sit up and not lean forward if it ever happened again, but when she did go up, I leaned forward because all I could think was 'Crap! How do I ride this out! Don't tense up and pull her down on you!' and went limp because I knew that I was going to come off, figured it was better than than trying to fight it and stay on, and break a limb, which is why I think I ended up with just a bruise and a stiff neck. The person that saw it all happen said that she couldn't believe how hard the horse was flailing, and was amazed that she didn't fall on me or step on me.
