This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Is this your doctor's opinion, or yours? ;~)
I can't talk, I rode Saddle Seat at Arab regionals in a cast, we had to tailor my show jacket to fit over it. I still can't believe my parents let me do that!
What a story... Do you remember the pain of it happening? Or was it lost in the adrenaline of the moment?
Sure glad you came out of it the victor.
Goose looks all grown up!
That sure is a neat saddle on sassy...
And Faith us just beautiful!
On this part, I assume it makes a difference whether that ligament will grow back without surgery, or if they'll have to mend it. It would seem this is a fairly important function in life, to be able to use your thumb.
On a related note, I cut the tendon on the outside of my pinky finger clean through with a hedge cutter several years ago now. This is the tendon on either side of the joint that keeps the finger straight when it bends. I can bend my pinky at the last knuckle, sideways about 45 degrees without feeling anything. I opted to not repair it, but the doctor said if I played piano or something, I might want to.
A pinky's not as important as a thumb. :~\
THANKS :)
Well, I’m so glad y ou were not hurt more seriously and sorry you were hurt at all. Sounds like it could have been bad.
Maybe Bob needs to be tied up to the side of that pen for awhile:)
Sure you can still ride...The only problem I had with riding when my arm was broke was putting the saddle on. You always have enough people around that if that’s a problem you can get help.
Becky
Put Cyn's saddle on... As round as she's gotten I was pretty sure his saddle would be too narrow with this big thick pad under it... we even looked at a couple thinner felt pads at the tack shop yesterday to see what was available... but I think it's OK, don't you? It's still in good shape, but it's thick. I think it has at least an inch thick felt inside it.
Cyn being witchy about ecurbh handling her belly. She finds it very personal and dances and swishes around some. It's one of her bitchy things she does, but ecurbh just sticks with her till she quits...
LOOK at this shared look between them. ;~)
Much better, even though Bay is NOT helping. ;~)
Then she got clipped, which she is very good about...
Then they stood tied for awhile.
I even climbed on Bay while ecurbh unloaded hay, and walked him around the yard. He felt strong and ready to go... he didn't gasp when I got on or anything! ;~) Felt good. Ecurbh didn't ride, the hay knocked him out. But I think Cyn's ready to go too, with the exception of not liking her belly rubbed, she was an angel :~) Even seemed cheerful at times to be out and doing something. :~)
The lady that looked at Rocky called today...This lady really rubs me the wrong way. About 2 years ago she cozied up to me, acting like we were friends, then started talking about breeding her mares to Rocky. Never a mention of stud fee...I didn’t say alot because I’ve had a lot of people say they were going to breed and then never do. But she got down to picking the week we were going to do it and I finally said to her, you know, I’m not going to do this for you for free....Didn’t hear from her again for 2 years, till about a month ago when she called wondering if I wanted a couple of Jack Russell’s she had. She hadn’t heard about Larry, or that I was selling everything. She calls yesterday comes out looks at him, rides him, I tell her what I’m wanting from him, and she’s going to do me this big favor of helping to sell him, and she calls today and just wants to breed a mare again, and again no mention of paying for the service. I just got off the phone telling her I did not want to breed him, I want to sell him, that’s her choice.
She said she would think about it. But still, I think the ole gal just keeps trying to use me. If she wants to breed fine, just come out and say it, don’t come in here acting like we’re bosom buddies.
Becky
So Goose is a blue roan too? Sure is pretty:) Nice pictures.
Becky
Hmmm... Yeah, I wouldn’t know what to make of all that. She may not be serious about anything.
Next she’ll just offer to keep him at her place till he sells, as a favor, right? ;~\
Looks like you all are ready to go:)
Becky
I honestly don’t know how frog tells all of hers apart in the pasture. ;~)
I mean, mine are all the same color, but they don’t look as much alike in body type and everything as all of hers do.
Well, I think she seriously wants to breed her mare to Rocky, I just don’t think she wants to pay for it.
Becky
Yes, Goose is Blue. Beth said Whirl will be gray.
I hate Goose’s picture was a little blurry. He did really great.
That’s not the way that works. :~)
I hope y’all will be able to go riding soon. You sound like you miss it. Is it too cold up there to ride all winter? I just didn’t know why you had to get them back into shape. They look really good. How old are they?
I can’t imagine, but there are people like that. You’d be surprised how many people claim to be my friend to get free medical care. “With friends like that......
I wish I was closer. I’d use him for Sasha, my buckskin. I bet it’d be beautiful.
We don’t ride in the winter... more because of rain and mud than cold. We’re fair weather riders :~) Our trails close in winter so they won’t be destroyed by traffic in the wet season... it gets pretty deep.
So we haven’t ridden since October.
My Bay is 28 this year. My husband’s mare is 8 I think. Or 9 this year?
He sure doesn’t look that old. You’ve taken great care of him.
I see what you mean abt. the trails getting rutted out when it’s wet.
Hope y’all aren’t tired of me today, but it’s cold & windy so I can’t get outside.
We just put Sissy and her baby up. We let them out with the others yesterday and the dominant mare, Daisy (B&W) chased her. We put Daisy in the round pen, so now we are alternating them day and nite.
Frog and I think Daisy is trying to take Sissy’s baby. The “old farts” say they are playing and they will stop. I’ve seen Daisy chase a new gelding till he went over the fence when he was in a corner. I don’t want to take any chances.
