FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I just checked and found my Himy pregnant. Any takers?
Glad you’re back. Looking forward to pictures.

Great pics FK! I love the one of Keely hugging Daddy. It’s like he’s saying “This is MY Daddy, get your own!” ;o)

Loved the pics of Bobs bunch. That llama looks like he could kick butt and take names!

Dang that’s a big mole! I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one that big. He looks to be about 8 inches long! You owe those kitties a can of tuna!

Well, you remember the HUGH mole tunnels in the paddock last year I ran water down all day without it coming up anywhere? I think those were his.

Unless there is another. :~\

She does love her Daddy. Craig said she slept that way back to the place they were staying.

What’s kind of neat about this particular show club. You have to have 15 points for your championship. Keeley got 6 points and Rosey 2 points. So that’s pretty good for a first time out in this show club.

Am I bragging, yep. Also, because it may never happen again. LOL

Bob said of that llama that she’ll get right in your face and knock you down if you don’t stand up for yourself. I was just afraid standing up for myself would get me slimed. It’s funny, I’m more afraid of that llama than I would be a pushy horse!

In other words, they are staying right where they are?

Well, I had my first horse related accident yesterday that actually required that I go to the doctor. I had gotten home from riding Goose on his first trail ride (with me), he did great by the way, and I decided to saddle up Bob and give him a short workout ride down the road. I think I've told y'all before about the pen full of about 50 hogs that's just right down the road that I have to ride by, and when we headed out we managed to get by them without too much fuss, but on the way back they must have seen him better because they all took off running and grunting and he just about came unglued then.

I kept him under control that time but he was just standing there on a hair trigger, trembling. So I urged him to go past again and that was it. He took off running sideways across the field, full bore. I had a death grip on his mane in my left hand and another one on the rein in my right, trying to pull his head around but he was too pumped at that point and I couldn't, but I did finally think to say "Whoa Bob!" and he did stop. So I didn't have a crash landing, but then I happened to look down at my left hand and my thumb was pointing down at around the 4 o'clock position instead of it's normal 2 o'clock and I thought "Eeewww, that's not supposed to do that" so I pushed it back into place, but any time I put any pressure on it it didn't want to stay there so I figured I'd better get off at that point rather than risk another melt-down.

I led him back past the hogs and back to the barn without incident and got everybody fed then I gave Kari a call to see what she thought and she recommended I go to the ER, so I did, and I'm glad because the Physician's Assistant who saw me also works at the local bone and joint clinic. They x-rayed it and said my field reduction had worked fine but the ulnar collateral ligament, which is the one that allows you to grip things, was torn clean through, so that's why my thumb still wanted to go into unnatural positions. So she cast it and I'm supposed to go see the an orthopod tomorrow. They may decide that 6 weeks of a cast or splint will do the trick or they may decide that it needs surgery. We'll see I guess, but I've still got use of my 4 fingers so I can still ride. I'll just have to adjust the way I hold my reins and mount from the off side since I won't be able to use my left hand like I normally do to pull myself up. I ain't missing my Best of America by Horseback ride the first weekend in May!

Well, from what I hear, Llama vomit is pretty nasty stuff, and they aim for your face, so I don't blame you.

We rode last week and ran up on a rattler sunning. Pic of his remains. I have the rattles. Got a good pic of the "Old Farts". I posed them in the creek. They are really fun to ride with. Photobucket"> Photobucket">

That was the answer to my nagging curiosity. I was wondering when you would be able to ride again, and how.
Does it hurt today?

No, not at all, I guess because the ligament is completely torn. This cast is darned aggravating though. I keep on hitting the space bar with the thumb.

That’s a great pic of all the old farts, and the snake was pretty cool too. I can’t believe that guy cut it’s head off with a pocket knife, even if somebody DID have it pinned down with a stick! It’s too bad there wasn’t anything next to it for scale because it sounds like it was HUGH!

That is a great group picture. You need to print it out and frame it - a copy for each of them :)

So, going to put the rattlers on a hat band?

BTW, That’s not me handling Keeley. It’s my handler’s wife, Peggy.

However, Keeley is sleeping on the shoulder of the guy I have been married to for the last 25 years. LOL
