This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
How’s Tuffy? I haven’t seen any posts about him lately?
I know, that’s why I’m really starting to worry. Her foals are born way early anyway and we always have trouble with them learning to nurse. I just want her to hold on one more week.
She has a hx of delivering early, doesn’t she?
She’s had five foals, all born 324 to 329 days. Normal would be 342 days give or take.
Tuffy’s fine. He gets ridden a couple of times a week and worked in a round pen five times a week. He sure is a laid back horse if he’s worked regularly. Give him a vacation and the appaloosa comes out - a buck or two at least.
Well not much you can do I guess. You are top notch at this though. If a premie is coming, he’ll be in good hands.
Glass of wine, maybe? :0/ Just kidding.
:) Thanks. Just praying I won’t have to deal with another crisis this year.
Yep, April 1 is 324 days. I wouldn’t mind at all her going past that.
You’re right, a glass of wine sounds really good right now :)
For you or the horse? :’)
Back in the OLD days before fetal alcohol syndrome was so widely understood, I was expecting a baby and my dr. told me to drink wine to stop premature contractions.
I think Farah would love to have a glass of wine or two. I have made Bob swear we won’t breed her anymore. She is a wonderful broodmare and a really good mother but I think she’s more than earned her keep for the rest of her life.
Yeah, esp. if each time her days are shorter.
Well, I hope she carries a bit longer and you have a healthy baby and momma.
She’s the one I think has pregnancy induced diabetes and is always very weak after she delivers. Last time with Red her eyes rolled back in her head and scared the h*ll out of me. She’s the one that taught me hot bran mash with molasses is more important than rubbing down the baby.
The vet’s have tested her and swear she’s alright but I think they can’t catch it in a test because it’s stress induced or something.
Anyway, very necessary that we are there when she delivers, she’s too weak to stand. Her first foal (before we got her) she stepped on and broke his leg.
Does she lose a lot of blood?
Yikes.
No - very little blood loss. And she always bounces right back if I can hand feed her bran mash with lots of molasses. And get a bowl of water for her to drink laying down.
Yep - that’s my feelings every time she foals. Lots of praying too.
