FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Yes, a good thing you went around. Maybe we will have enough time for it to dry out a little. News said some places got 12 inches. We got a little over an inch. I am too afraid of another drought to say much. Ponds around here are starting to run over their banks, but it’s better than the opposite.

I don’t blame you a bit. Hitch obviously is not safe out on her own :) Still, she’s a beautiful cat.

LOL - that’s not some flooding, that’s a whole heck of a lot of flooding. I expect to see the boat coming across. Glad you didn’t try to go through.

I never drive thru water that is rushing over a road like that. I just went to take a picture, not sure what that other guy was doing.

All of this water was gone by yesterday evening. It never stays up for very long.

He was considering whether he wanted a Darwin Award or not. ;o)

I think he was waiting to see if you were going to do it. :~) Good morning! What's on everyone's agenda for today?

Cleaned stalls yesterday... today I hope to do some earth moving... filling holes in my lunging area. Once in awhile the horses paw and dig a big hole out in the pasture.... too small to roll in, and deep. Do yours ever do that? Are they searching for something in particular? I always think they need minerals or something, and give them all a scoop in their dinner for awhile. But I haven't actually seen who did it and whether they lick it, or just dig. But it's right smack in the middle of my lunging area. See that? Where I put the wing on the jump?

Mine will paw a place, just to get some loose dirt I think, and then roll in it, but I’ve never seen them just dig a hole. I’ll have to check out the picture when I get home.

It’s a hole, about 2 feet in diameter and about a foot deep. It’s not the first time they’ve done this, I may have brought it up before, come to think of it... but it’s curious.

Yes, I do remember that section of road. It's good you didn't go thru it.

Two weekends ago, we had over 2 feet of snow and it all melted. Temps warmed up and it rained all day yesterday. This is what my back yard looks like this morning. Snow again and a lake in the backyard.

Front yard...Happy First Day of Spring!!

I’ve always wanted a pond like that in my yard!

Happy first day of spring to you too! I started early, I’ve been in spring about a month. :~)

Hmmmmm, I can see that pic now. Maybe my plea’s to TheGreatServerSecurityGuru to exempt Snapfish and Photobucket from their surf-control software didn’t fall on deaf ears.

That hole is strange. I’ve never seen a horse do that.

Dang that looks cold!! We’ve had daffodils, pear trees and redbuds blooming for a couple of weeks now. I hope it warms up for you soon too.

They usually have a hole like that going somewhere in the pasture. I have filled them in before.

I just don’t want that one right in the approach where I put my jumps! Not a good place!

I’m headed out there to fill it in... I’ve put this off far too long :~)

Me too! It's been a long cold winter. The stalls are a real mess, because we could not push a 'barrow out in all that deep snow. Now we have all this mud to contend with. It sure will be a lot of fun cleaning them...hahaha

Awkward picture of Bay jumping during our lunge session today, but nice picture of the fixed hole :~)

When I was filling in the hole I had that Beatles song stuck in my head:

I'm fixing a hole where the rain gets in
And stops my mind from wandering
Where it will go - oh... oh oh oh oh oh...

OK now it's stuck in my head again...

I had Cyn stand tied for quite awhile today too... not sure if it counts with Bay standing there keeping her company the whole time, does it?

She was a good girl. We cut her feed back. I like Bay hot on it but I don't think excess energy is good for her particular personality. :~)

Hi everyone!

I hope that everyone is doing well! Tomorrow is Friday, hooray! We're four people short at work, which means that I'm working loads of overtime. That's not even including the time that I've put into meeting for a big project I'm working on. Monday I have people flying in from Ireland, England, and all over the US, and Wednesday I have a staff meeting with the vice president. Holy moly. So that explains why I've disappeared on the forum!

You sound like a VIP.:’) I’m a peon that has on call this weekend. I’m leaving Tue for a week in San Diego though.

I’d say letting her stand tied even with Bay there is better then nothing:) Since she won’t ever be ridden without him close by, I don’t see a problem.

I would be saddling her to let her stand and lunge, Bay too. I think having the saddle on makes a difference in helping to get their mind back on working. (I know, I know, they are shedding horribly and you don’t want all that hair on your stuff:)
