FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

We have a sprayer with a hopper that we use to paint. When we built our house we hired the sheet rocking out. The company put it up , then told us it was more work than they had anticipated and wanted more money. My husband sent them on their way and we finished it ourselves.

When I was a teen, I had a boston terrier that thought she could take on anything. Including a horse. ONe time I saw her charge out into a muddy corral growling. She stopped directly under the horses nose and paused for about one second. THen jumped straight up into the air, mouth open wide, about to chomp down on the horses lips, when the horse jerked it’s head up just in time for the dogs teeth to click together about two inches short of the horse’s lips. Now, that little dog had an amazing talent for jumping very high. She could jump almost 5 feet straight up like a cat. But she couldn’t land like a cat. The corral was about a foot and a half deep in mud. She landed on her side...”splat”...in the mud, and when she did, the horse quickly and deftly put his front hoof right on top of her head and put his full weight on it, then walked off like nothing happened. Like I said, the mud was deep. That’s the only thing that saved her. Her head was pushed down a foot and a half and was stuck. Her butt was straight up in the air and wriggling like crazy trying to jerk free from the mud. It took about 15 long seconds of wiggling and yipe yipe yiping before she got her head yanked out. THe rest of the day, she wouldn’t be anywhere except right between my feet, growling and trembling.

I’m laughing my head off with that visual. So like something one of my min pins would do.

I was really surprised at the amount a sheet rock company quoted us just to do the taping/mudding at my mother's house. They did a good job, but $$$$.

I bet the sprayer saves you lots of time! :-)

Oh, minpins...smaller than a boston, but just as invincible...hehe.

That phrase, “bouncing off the walls”, actually applies to minpins LITERALLY. I dated a gal once whose daughter had a minpin. She told me once that it hunted rabbits and could CATCH them. I didn’t believe it untill I saw the little terror all riled up playing one day. It would run around and around in circles in the living room, faster and faster untill it was going over the top of the furniture, along the back of the sofa. The sofa was one of those fancy kind that went around the corner. Well the dog went right around the corner too. Faster and faster until it was actually running accross the wall behind the sofa.

That silly dog liked to burrow under blankets, pillows, and sofa cushions and take a nap there. You had to check under the throws, pillows and cushions before sitting down or you might squash the little imp.

...only dog I ever saw that had faster paws than a cat. He regularly boxed the cat and WON! THe cat got nuthin but air.

That is all so true. They are cool dogs (rescues) but I’ve found that they share a brain with ten or twelve other minpins at some other location - hence my two have a working brain only occassionally, and never at the same time.

I was on the way to bed last nite and walked by and saw these rug rats on the couch together. I've never seen them all pile up together, so I just had to take their picture. Roberta (half jack/yorkie) Hitch, and Callie AKA Nasty (Yorkie)

Hey that’s great news about Chops! As nice a dog as he is, I figured somebody would want him.

I'm getting really pissed off here, they've got this server cranked down so tight now that I can't see over half of the pictures now.

What an adorable picture. The cat looks Himilayan or Rag Doll ? All of them beautiful.

She’s Himalayan.
Her name is Hitch.
Strange I know. I wasn’t gonna keep her, but she got up in Hal’s truck when she was a kitten and he saw her bounce off the hiway behind him in the mirror. He was going over 50mph. He went back & got her & she looked up at him and shook her head like she was addled. He brought her home and she was fine.
The next thing a couple weeks later she disappeared and 10 days later she was sitting on the patio when I went out to go to work. She was skinny and dirty, but fine. She hasn’t been outside since. I figure she is 2 lives down already!

HF...those are great pictures:)

Well we had some flooding here yesterday and today, not at my house, but on the route I take to get to town. I had to go the long way around. I have a picture, and thought you all might remember where this is at. It's the road right before the S curves that run by that deep creek and the curved bridge.

The creek came all the way up this road, even farther then in the picture, the other side goes down first, but on around the curves it was still over the road also, and flowing very fast, so you can't drive thru it.

Wow! I remember that place. I’m glad you didn’t try to drive through it. It looks like the car on the other side was thinking about it.

Yeah - I do think that place looks familiar!

It would take a lot to flood your place. Your place is where people would go to build the ark. ;~)

Hey - I bet that boat is moving...

They're both waiting to see if the other one is gonna try, and whether they get away with it. ;~)
