This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
We were down in Newnan training dogs and missed the whole show. There was nothing down there but a lot of really strong, gusty, straight line winds out of a partly cloudy sky. No rain.
Our trainer bought a mare that nobody knew was in foal until she started waxing. She was really fat and out of shape when she bought her, everybody thought it was just fat and a grass belly until about 6 hours before the foal was on the ground.
Maybe a St Patrick’s day baby? Good luck.
Duchess I wish I could help you with the new FR, but I have to click about three things to find the view I used to like myself. We hates changes. ;~\
Well, today we called over to borrow the chain harrow from Tiffney and she didn't have it, a different friend did, so we made do with our redneck drag again... pallets chained to a heavy round pole, and weighted down with a sand bag. We didn't take pictures of the process, but it did a good job of spreading the poop! Now we'll just let the pasture rest a month or so and hopefully... GROW.
I free lunged Bay a little afterwards, but these pictures are really to show the nice tidy pasture. ;~)
Glad to see your post :) I was on another board reading about Atlanta weather today - hail the size of baseballs??? Thought I’d check to see if you wanted to visit Nevada for awhile until it settles down there. We are only dealing with cold and predicted snow tomorrow.
Redneck worked :) The pasture and the horse look great.
I figured out that if I type posts:* up in the box on the right top it sorta brings it up right. I am not thrilled with the improvements here :)
Both dogs did splendidly today! Miss Shelley did picture perfect doubles, and after a spotty start with a long land blind she nailed it repeatedly from different directions (a/k/a 'walking blind'). Miss Ruby is as fast as any dog I've ever seen, by far the fastest dog out there today -- she is a flippin' rocket and she charges the birds like there's a full dinner dish waiting over there. She did a 120 yard land mark with a duck, and brought it all the way back and gave it to me! Then she was the only dog in the water retrieving who didn't bank run, except of course for Shelley who didn't bank run either. And then Shelley did beautiful water marks across a cove, from 3 different angles.
I think they're almost ready for their next level in hunt tests . . . . .
(Bay looks good too!)
Someday I’ll have actual farm equipment, like a tractor, and a harrow ;~)
The girls did great. I hope you took some pictures :)
Miss Ruby going full bore across a grassy field and hitting the duck like a defensive lineman sacking a quarterback is just a sight to see!
Miss Shelley canters coyly up to the duck, and leaps up into the air with her head cocked on one side and her front paws spread wide, as if to say, "Oh! There you are!!!!" and then pounces. Delicately.
These two dogs have VERY different personalities.
And then somebody tried to GIVE us a nice 11 month old Chocolate boy who was abandoned by his owner. His name is Bootsie and he's a darling, already retrieving and really ready for Started. But I would have to rework my entire truck layout and my dog sleeping arrangements . . .
Oh it wouldn’t be that hard to change the sleeping arrangements would it :)
I’m going to shoot the next person who trys to GIVE me something that eats.
Yeah, we did. We had some more bad ones this morning that they said had 60mph straight line winds and nickel-sized hail but we never saw any hail. Now granted, it was raining so hard at one point that I couldn't see the end of the driveway, but that was about the worst of it.
I just piddled around the house most of the morning. I had to hem some curtains, then finished up a new saddle blanket while I had the machine out. Then I got out my rope and tried my hand at making some black reins. I put loops on the ends this time where the snaps go so that the snaps can be easily replaced in case they get broke. They turned out pretty well, but I had to undo the splice and start over 2 or 3 times before I finally got it right. They look nice, but they're at least twice as heavy as the other ones so I don't know if I'm gonna like them. :-/ Kari and I are riding out at the Forest tomorrow morning so we'll have to see how they actually feel when in use.
But in the process of doing all that, I managed to give myself a busting tension headache, I guess because of the way I was holding my head, plus I think I've got my neck out of whack again and need to go to the chiropractor, but I had to go to bed for the rest of the afternoon. It started at the back of my head, ran up over the top of my head and into my right eye and Tylenol wouldn't even touch it. But I tried a little accupressure on it, then went to sleep for a few hours and it's more or less gone now.
LOL!! There ain't no such thing as a "free" dog or horse is there?!
Well, I’m glad you survived the weather! Show me your reins tomorrow on the trail ride... how you put them together with the snaps. :~)
Take it easy so your headache doesn’t return :~\
LOL - no, nothing’s free (and the free ones always cost me more than the ones I actually buy)
Glad you came through the storms okay - I didn’t realize you were being hit too. I remember 8” of rain one day when I lived in AL. It was running down the hill my house was on in sheets. Unbelievable to this CA girl that that much water could come down that fast :)
Remember that grab bar? It’s no more. I fell out of the truck today.’(
LOL - Someone put up a sign in animal speak that says “C’mon in”
Beaker
I think I owe you an apology. I was short with you the other day. I’ve been thinking that going for lessons might be fun after all. Just not around here. I don’t have to give up my dream but no sense in doing nothing in the mean time.
