FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Hi everyone!

I just found this thread. I have a 10-year-old daughter who is a budding horsewoman. We live in horse country - Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Anyone else who lives in this area, I would love to correspond with you about the best stables and other resources in this area. We do not own a horse yet but at the rate Sarah is going, I suspect we will before too long!

Yeah, it made my eyes roll back in my head.

I guess they had to raise the price way up because they're still making them by hand and nobody else is.

Well, our news this morning is some geese taking a rest in my pasture, and a rather good picture of the old Bay man... :~)

They're actually related. I went out earlier and snapped the picture of the geese. Thought maybe I'd post it later if it was a slow news day. I'd already taken the camera back in the house and was walking ecurbh out for him to go to work, when Bay and Cyn caught sight of the geese and decided to go investigate them.

Well, Bay, the big man, trots out there like he's going to run them off. Well, they all flush and fly, and I don't think he was expecting that! He spooked and tried to go back, or sideways, or something, and slipped on the frosty ground and fell on his butt! We saw the whole thing and he really did get up and look around to see if anyone was watching. I yelled that yes, we had seen it, and he decided to get mad and chase the mares around awhile and rebuild his bruised ego. I went out there to make sure he was OK, and snapped the second picture. I think he is, though I wouldn't be surprised that he's not a little bruised in his hip later. That's a lot of weight hitting the deck :~\

Ah - welcome to the thread! I’m in WA state, a long ways from knowing places to go in PA.

Is she taking lessons now, or just pleading with you to get her one?

There's only one Pariani saddle on EBay...and they want three grand for it! (OMG!)

Wow!! Sounds like you've got a gold mine there. I'd be selling that baby!

Hi there DRL! Welcome to the thread. I believe there’s at least one person on the Saddle Club thread lives in PA. I’m thinking it was cjshapi, but I think she’s over on the west end of the state.

I’m glad to hear that your daughter is developing an interest in horses. I think caring for horses develops a lot of good habits in kids, plus it’s just plain fun. I didn’t get my first horse until I was in my 20’s, but I’d wanted one all my life. You’re a great Mom for giving Sarah that early experience!

Welcome newbies. I’m still a newbie, also. From Alabama.
Is Tuscalosa goldfinch from the same Tuscalosa. AL?
Anyway, just got through cutting toenails so bad the guy could have almost used a farrier instead of a Nurse Practitioner.
Geese sometimes come to our pond for awhile. I always mean to take a picture of them, but get too busy.
Ebay is great for saddles. I am watching one there now. That sure is a nice one, but wronge style for me.
I am going to try to put in a picture for the first time.

That’s a nice looking grey. I’ve always been partial to greys, esp. with the dapples and the black socks.

Yes, I'm in Tuscaloosa County! Where are you?

I live in a little community outside Tuscaloosa where it's hard to swing a cat without hitting a relative.

Mt. Hope. It’s a suburb of Moulton, which is between Decatur, Russellville, and Muscle Shoals.
I’m a transplant or I’d be related to somebody, too. We go through Tuscaloosa on the way to see my family in Clark Co., Jackson, AL.
What kind of horses do you ride?
