FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Have you ever let him go out alone in the fenced in yard yet? I knew there for a while y’all were afraid he’d dig under and go AWOL again.

He’s out loose in the yard when we are home. Haven’t left him outside when we ~leave~ yet... We leave him in the house in the crate. I think he might be OK with the fence now, but given Homer’s in the house when we’re gone anyway, so far Barkely and Gidget have been too.

Yeah, that probably keeps Homer happier too. I don’t gather that any of them are just DYING to go out anyways, given their current cushy accomodations inside.

So has Homer quit his nocturnal fretting?

He only had one bad night. I still don’t know what that was about. The dog is just anxious. He frets at the drop of a hat.

Heh...I just realized that I meant to say DIEING, not DYEING. Duh!! That’d be a dog of a different color now wouldn’t it! ;o)

Heh... I didn't even notice ;~)

I just took another picture of Barkley. Every time I look at him, he looks like he's posing for a portrait. He's just a very photogenic dog.

He’s a camera hog, kinda like my cat Bear. They just seem to lay there saying “Take my picture!”

My sister said the same thing. She had to blow it up to make sure! I didn’t think abt. it. They are just stretchy comfortable without a big seam in the crotch.
That was a beautiful place.
Hal didn’t let my mare out today. Now I have Sassy in there with her and he put a hot wire around it today ‘cause they broke the horse wire 2 times yesterday.

Well, and frog said in person they looked a lot more orange and not so much like skin tone.

~chuckling~ so I guess it’s just the pictures ;~)

You addressed that last one to somebody named “frog” instead of FrogInABlender so I’ll bet they’re wondering what the heck you’re talking about.

I think they’ll be fine. Your hay sure looks a heck of a lot better than mine. Heck, I don’t EVER get hay that green. But $15 a bale, DANG!! I just THOUGHT hay around here was expensive.

They’re heavy hundred pound bales, but yeah - they’re expensive this year. They were $12 last year.

I just got home and we’re getting incredibly gusty wind. It’s been windy all day, but I’ll bet it’s gusting 30-40 mph right now and the temps are still really warm. It was all I could do to keep the feed room door from jerking out of my hands when I was at the barn, and the bad part’s not even here yet. The worst is supposed to come through our area sometime between midnight and 3am and they’re giving a very high probability of tornadoes, just like last time. I’ve parked the truck in the back yard, away from the trees, and I’ll probably bring the cat crate in from the shed, just in case we have to bug out. I HATE it when it storms at night!

Oh no! I’m sorry you have storms coming. Yikes. Check in with us - we’ll be fretting if we start getting reports that it’s bad down there.

We just had a good gust or two come through here... probably 30 mph or so. I was taken aback, like “Where the heck did THAT just come from?” Then it was quiet again. Hope yours don’t amount to anything more.

Same here. Y'all stay safe up there - it's already raining pretty hard here.

My daughter and her husband and children are coming here to spend the night.

Barkley is adorable. Wasn’t he in a lot of pain a while back? How is he doing?

Well he had that freak kink in his neck one morning. Yeah - he was screaming in pain. Several days of Rimadyl and muscle relaxers and crate rest, and he’s been fine since. I don’t know what that was.

Evening everyone!

Frog, please stay safe, and check in when you can. I'll be thinking about you and sending prayers your way. Are you going to keep the horses out?

Nothing much horsey to report. Just got back from dinner with a friend of mine. I ate myself silly. :-)

Hi mama. I finally made it. My password was in a folder, Travis must have read it and didn’t tell me. What a dork. Oh well, I got it now.
