FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

With winter just around the corner, I am going to hold off on buying a horse. Jody is here to ride and that suits me. Hey, you never know, might be some lonely ranchers out West.

Yeah, it is impressive, especially when I got there everything did seem so different. I couldn’t believe all the trees you had along the way to your house. There won’t be that much “pretty” scenery to see, just the Tulsa skyline, coming in from the airport. It’s only the last 6 miles you’ll see any “country”.

I think all kinds of geography are interesting! It’s interesting because it’s different! I love just looking out the window driving or flying over different parts of the country. Every landscape has some appeal, something distinctive.

But I did the same thing when you were coming... I’d ride along and say - ooh - this is a particularly good patch of ferns, we’ll have to make sure we come this way with Becky!

Heh... like the whole place isn’t trees and ferns :~)

I will like the Oaks and the rather open feel of your woods, I think... here it’s very dark and closed in. You really can’t see far into the woods.

I want to see that oil derrick thing that’s in your woods, I’ve never seen one of those... and the rocky trails, and the cave place where the kids party, and the neat clearing the deer hunter made. That’s what I can remember!

Well I do know a very nice cowboy from the horse forum... he rides big cattle operations all summer usually, this summer he’s been stuck leading tourists on trail rides out of Jackson Hole. He’s very available, travels light, and is only about 30.

I have a walking expedition down to the caves planned for Sun. When most of the others will be here:)..I have an itinarey all wrote out:)

The rest of the stuff are definitely part of where we will ride. No problem there.

I’m thinking Thrus. we will be anxious waiting on the others so that is the day we’ll do the driving around sights I want you to see. My kids place, the feed store, the saddle shop, I think you’ll like browisng there even if it is all western stuff. Maybe take a swing by 2J’s, maybe even go by Debbie’s where I feed horses at times. You might like seeing her stable, just stuff to kill time.

Daylight savings ends on the last Sunday in October, so we’ll at least have an extra hour of light that we wouldn’t have shortly thereafter. I HATE it when daylight savings time ends!

It’s pretty unlikely that I’ll be able to go to Oklahoma but I bet I can come to the DFW airport and meet you.

I can imagine! That’s gotta be depressing. But at least you have longer days in the summer.

I couldn’t get over the fact that it stayed light until 10:30 or so in Germany when my husband went there about a month ago. If it stayed light that long around here I’d probably die of sleep deprivation before the summer was over coz I’d just have to stay out doing stuff until it got dark.

It’s not dark till 10 pm on the 4th of July... that’s why the fireworks tick me off so much, they don’t start till late and go till after midnight.

Well, that’s not the only reason they tick me off... I’d probably still be pissed if it was noon. ;~)

I didn’t tell you that I called the cops night before last because someone was setting stuff off, whistling pete’s, firecrackers, bottle rockets.... I’m tolerant in July... Not in August!
