FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Sounds like quite a mixed bag there. I guess horses are kinda like chips, you can’t have just one. ;o) I’ll look forward to the pics!

On your saddle issue... if you find the saddle still doesn’t stay put for mounting even when it does fit... then it’s time to use a mounting block. An adult pulling the saddle over to mount from the ground isn’t all that comfortable, even if they do have th wither to hold it upright.

All 8 of mine are Racking Horses. Got some pics on my profile page, but the babies are all grown up now. I need to do some updating.

Thanks - I’ve always been told that I do it correctly - but he’s a bigger horse than I’ve been riding so I may be pulling it over now. I have had a harder time getting up in the saddle with him.

One of my ambitions is to teach mine to “park out”. It drops the stirrup height quite a bit. Otherwise I just get them to step half way over a log and mount that way. I’m lazy!

The only one of mine that can park out is the one who is short anyway ;~\

Beautiful!

What’s the proper name for the coloring on your horses, the ones that look like Siamese cats? :-)

You need to post your horse’s picture on your profile page so we can flip and see him when we need to.

Blue roan. I’ve always thought they looked like Siamese cats too, and the hair seems to be heat sensitive in the same way because the cool parts are the ones that are dark. They turn almost completely black in the wintertime.

LOL!! Maybe you can get Pony to teach Bay how to do it sometime! She’s so cute!

That's right ;~) It'd be nice if he would!

As it is... if pony stretched out just a little more, I could almost just swing a leg over ;~)

She's not strong like that though, and she almost gets stuck so it's hard to get out of. I'd be a little leery of mounting them like that, unless I was a little person. ;~\

Awesome. I no longer will have to call them Siamese horses!

Thx...

Remember the video the other day where Bay was blowing at the back corner of the pasture? He’s doing that again. Same corner, I still can’t see anything actually out there. It’s been going on an hour now. He’s SURE there’s something there!

Evening everyone.

Congratulations to Alison! :-)

Well, Chester is still hanging around. He comes in at night to sleep, and during the day he does his own thing it seems. The other cats are Not Pleased with the arrangement, however.

I hope that everyone is doing well. Things are busy here, but I'm going to try to get to the barn on Friday. There's just enough daylight that I can go after work.

Welcome to the forum! Would you like to be added to the ping list? I try to ping people in the evenings when I can, however as of late it has been sporadic.
