This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Check out the lastest Barbaro thread
Yes ma'am it is.
Well we’ll definitely watch! Congratulations!
Not blown off, just a big spot in the middle of each. Here is the garage.
Ah - I see. Well bummer. I see your setter withstood the wind!
Yep, I guess when it turned with the direction of the wind it did not create as much resistance as a non moveable garage. Winds were up to 65 mph that night. Kinda scary when you are home alone and the power goes out.
In other words... if you think you were afraid, being around me probably wouldn't have helped!
We've gotten a few of the coolest little things though, for power outages. I think they're the neatest thing. We have one in the barn, one in the bedroom, and one in the living room, and we bought one or two for everyone on our Christmas list. You leave them plugged in an outlet, and they provide a dim orange night light all the time. But when the power goes out, they automatically come on. A nice, white light that is bright enough to see by.
Intermatic Three-Way Emergency Power Failure Light #PR3C
I think they're terrific for that first few moments when the power goes out and it's dark, when you're fumbling around trying to remember where you put the flashlight. You can pick it up and carry it while you oriented again. And the light lasts a couple hours on a charge. Long enough to get organized.
We have something similar to that here at work except they look like flood lights. I need to get some of these. Although I always know where my rechargable flashlight is, lighter and candles (scented of course)
I’m afraid to use candles too much, though we do have a few, with all the animals to knock them over.
We have some other rechargeable lights.. spotlights and a DeWalt light that works with the DeWalt batteries we have.
Once I can get set up with some light I’m OK with the power outage, as long as the wind isn’t still blowing... :~\
I keep my candles up high and out of animal reach. I learned that the hard way. I had an old cat that we lost about a year ago at age 19, the jumped on the arm of the couch and got his tail in a candle on the end table and burned the hair off his tail. He was not hurt but boy did it stink!
Boy, that could've been a disaster if he'd really gone up in flames big time and went running around the house setting everything else on fire. Not a pretty picture to imagine, for you or for him. I'll bet he was royally pissed as it was!
Poor old guy did not know what was going on and why we were laughing at him (After we put hims tail out with the pillow of course)
Brrr.. you’re right! Where’s a hot flash when you need one?
It is pretty — but slippery! :-/
Good morning.
The snow is gone. Today I am hauling some round bales home. Rocky is chewing on trees:\. I also have someone coming to look at the RV.
Becky
Well, that sounds like a lot of work. Hopefully that will keep Rocky entertained. :~\
That’s a nice RV! Good luck with the buyer.
We still just sortof up... keep heading back to the couch for a nap. Not even light out here yet.
It’s really not a lot of “work”, just a lot of driving, since the bales are at Celia”s, and I can only haul one at a time.
The bale will have to keep Rocky happy, because once he has it he will be locked up in his run.

Well, we just finished bathing all three dogs. This will be the second week of doing that regularly. We’re trying to see if it helps. They each have their own issues and we’ve been wondering if weekly baths would help. Homer has his skin issues of course, that are by far the worst, but he’s been a lot better, we’ve been giving him benadryl a couple times a day, and his back is clear and the hair is growing back.
Barkley had an issues a couple weeks back where he looked like he was having some infection/irritation issues with the skin on his sheath. We bathed and medicated it and it’s clear now, but we’re going to see if bathing him weekly will keep it good. I think he was just kindof... dirty down there. He’s low to the ground, I think he gets splashed and dirty.
Gidget has recurring yeast infections, and we’re keeping that under control with Epsom sits baths.
If it’s not one thing it’s another.
Well, we just watched the wrong dog show. It was a replay of a 2003 show and it was not your dog. :~)
We’ve set the show tonight to record.. is that the right one? Championship from California?
