FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Toads are cool! I remember catching a Bullfrog one time when I was a kid and it just blew me away. That was the biggest dang frog I’d ever seen. It took two hands to hold him.

You know ever since I got DSL, I’ve been watching that video of the bull fighting horse and the dressage horse almost every day.

That bull fighting horse is really cool, but that dressage horse almost brings me to tears, as sappy as that sounds. I just can’t believe she didn’t win. She was so much better then that horse that did get first, IM uneducated O:)...she might have been switching her tail, but she was just working so hard, and so beautiful...I just watched again:).

I went back and watched the bullfighter the other day too.

And I agree on the grey. Just a great effort. Give me a link... I haven’t watched that one in awhile. :~)

Noevermind... I found it and watched. You know... if you want sappy and beautiful, you can't beat this one. There is No Dis in Ability

About the Paralympic Equestrian team. It tears me up :~) I wonder if that is one you haven't seen since the DSL. What chokes me up about it is the power and grace they are able to have on the back of a horse. They have some gorgeous powerhouse stallions on that team.

Well, he may not have been a Bullfrog, because don’t they live in water? This one was nowhere near water and just looked like a giant toad. He wasn’t green and slick, he was brownish gray and warty. And as for my catching him, he more or less caught himself. We were outside messing with our bikes in the front yard and he apparently tried to crawl through the spokes of my front wheel rather than go around and he got stuck. I just looked down and there he was. We were like “WHOOOOOAH!!! Look at that HUGE frog!!”. We played with him for the rest of the afternoon before we let him go. It was cool.

Oh - and watch it till the end. They start out with riders with fairly minor disabilities, and work up. :~)

Oh dear. When I first read it I thought it was horses who died. Very sad.

It was a pretty big trailer, but it didn’t look to have a very big living area, probably just a home-converted front tack room like several of my riding buddies have. I’ll bet they were running one of those little portable propane heaters in there and those things are just death traps in an enclosed space. We had a guy die at the horse camp in the Forest here that same way not too long ago. And it’s so sad because it’s so preventable.

Either a heater or they just had a stove on for heat. Something bad. Here's the dressage video: ANDREAS HELGSTRAND - WEG2006 Freestyle Final

Oh, that is sad. I think that sort of thing happens more often then we think tho, in camping trailers.

I did watch the video to the end, that is just incredible!!

Well, I’ve got to head to town to pick up feed.

See you all later.

Yeah - and I have to get to town and buy some clothes or I’ll have to wear my jammies on the trip.

Well I'm back from town. I was moderately successful! Got a few new shirts, and at least one new pair of pants. It was hard for me to remember I needed to buy t-shirts and Oklahoma clothes and not just sweaters! All the sweaters were out and I do love sweaters. I'm bummed that the knit stirrup pants I love to wear and ride in have now been out of style so long they're hard to find. I don't know what I'm going to do! Lose weight, I guess.

Good job on the shopping:),, you just might need a sweater here in the evening’s and morning. The forecast is changing every day:\..The temps. are remaining steady, but a 20% chance of rain has been added on Wed. so far.

Good morning...slow start here today.

Good Morning.

Alison didn't have school yesterday, so we cleaned house, planted bulbs, mums, grass seed and played some pc games. The rain had cleared and it was beautiful. Today is suppose to be nice also. I still need to pack up the left over garage sales stuff. The Salvation Army won't take the TV, crib or the sofa. Ya can't even give this stuff away. Maybe Goodwill will take it.

Have a great weekend!
