FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

The worst thing was...my luggage got shuffled along the way, so the airline had to deliver it to me the next day. It wasn’t as bad as it might have been, but I could definitely detect a certain aroma. I wonder what the poor delivery guy thought, having to drive all the way down from SeaTac with the thing...

That happened to me on a business trip a couple of years ago...on the way TO the seminar. Sooooo, I had to sleep in my underwear and HOPE that they would get the thing to my hotel before I had to leave for class the next morning or I would've been going in my slouchy old jeans and a shirt with airport food spots all over it. Luckily they showed up with it around 4am. It didn't do much for my beauty sleep but at least I had decent clothes and some deodorant.

Hey MT, is it Cleveland that you live close to or Cincinnati? I’ve got some folks in NE Ohio who are interested in Goose so I was just wondering.

I’ve got my scheduled cleaning for today done, Harley saddled, lunch ate, so I’m off to ride.

The weather here is beautiful...crossing fingers it holds.

Hey, you ought to strike up a deal with the weatherman that you’ll take off your horse blankets every time he predicts rain. That way he’ll be sure to be right. ;o)

The weatherman is a liar and a cheat. An hour ago, the forecast said 60, partly cloudy with chance of sunbreaks. Now it says rain and 52. No explanation, they just ~changed~ the forecast.

Yeah, I've been hoping that it will too. That would really suck if it rained the whole time we were there. If it looks like it's going to do that I'll probably just leave the horses at home and drive on out without them. No sense in putting them or us through the stress of hauling all that way in the rain. So everybody say their prayers for no rain!

Well hey, if you’d just quit taking those blankets off maybe he’d have a chance! ;o)

And I’ll only bring sweaters.

I’ve looked at our suitcase again and I think it’s OK as long as I don’t fill it too full. What’s the worst that can happen... my undies strewn about the tarmac?

You’d probably have undies strown all over DFW too the way they handle luggage in airports. I think it was on the same trip that they lost my luggage that I saw a bag come out of the luggage carousel with clothes hanging out of it all the way around. The zipper must’ve given out after it was checked, probably due to rough handling, and I assume that the baggage handlers had just thrown a few wraps of duct tape around it to keep it closed, but it sure was a mess. I was just thankful that it wasn’t mine, but if it had been I would’ve been giving the airline holy hell about it and tried to get them to replace it. I don’t know if they’d do that or not, but I sure as heck would try.

I’m so glad to hear you would still come even if the weather is not good, and that you wouldn’t drag the horses all that way just to stand around here.

Mack just looked at the 15 day forecast, FWTW:), but it is showing that whole week as being sunny, partly cloudy and in the 70’s which is perfect.

Other then all the spiders, it was very nice riding today:)

Cleveland. About 50 miles South East. I wonder if I know them.

I sure wish you all would let me know what you all drink...non-alcoholic, and
alcoholic. We don’t drink anything but water, and coffee around here, Oh, and beer:). But I’d like to have whatever beverages you all drink around here.

I’m keeping the food really simple, so I’m sure that is not going to be a problem, unless you are really weird:), like a vegetarian or something:).

But what to have for drinks is stumping me. Please don’t be bashful, I really want to know?

Well, it looked to me like you were planning several meals out. Good. Less work for you. I like that. As for me, I am ~not~ vegetarian :~)

All I usually drink is coffee and water too. Soda pop, cola beverages, beer are fine I’m not picky... mixed drinks if I’m out. :~)

Should I bring some of my super strong espresso? :~)

If you want your certain brand of espresso then you should bring it, unless I can get it here.

I was going to pick some up when I went to the store. Mack has one of those espresso makers.

All the food I’m going to prepare here, other then breakfast, I’m going to make ahead of time so is all I have to do is warm it up. On Sat at the cook out it’s hotdogs, hamburgers, chips...NOTHING fancy.

Lots of sandwiches, soups, and a few times out.
