FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Hey, tuffy:) It has been along time since anyone posted here. I still come over to FR to read the news everyday, but I don’t post much.

I have gotten rid of all my horses, and am just about to finish up putting in the apartment in town in the office building I own. I sold the house. I love living in town. In fact today I had to give a ride to one of my old neighbors, and on the drive back to town, I was wondering how we made that drive for so many years:).

I was actually thinking of posting here today, on that long drive back to town:)...We are getting close to the two year anniversary of everyone coming to OK. Seems so much longer ago then that to me. It would be fun to do it again.

Thanks for the ping. It would be nice to hear from everyone, wouldn’t it:) I’ve been wondering if Frog is building her house?

Hey Lady, so sorry to hear about Sonny, Farah and the dogs. Tough times for you all. Good news about Tuffy. I would love to see some pictures of him now. Has Janelle done any breeding with him?

My garden was a total waste! Just too cool this year. Tomatoes rotted on the vine for so many. My peppers finally have started to do good. They better hurry. No frost yet, but the weather has cooled alot

It was perfect weather for riding anyways. I went for an overnighter weekend before last. Left on Thursday and came back Sunday. It was the fall ride for a club I belong too. What is great is that you pay a fee and all the meals are provided. DJ and Karaoke on Saturday night. My new horse is doing very well. He doesn't mind where he is in the line, doesn't care if horses get ahead of him and will go out alone. He is so smooth, I don't get sore at all. Only thing is the hills and my knees. lol

I don't bother taking pictures anymore on the rides, since we don't post much here anymore.

I often wonder how everyone is doing. The other board is very nice and interesting, but they all seem like strangers to me. Lots of young people and it is hard to relate to them.

A lot has happened in those two years, Becky. To me it doesn't seem that long ago. It really was nice and so gracious of you to have us there.

I am so glad to hear that you have adjusted to town life and are happy. That's the important part. It just amazes me how you give up the horses, when you worked so hard with the barrel racing and the competitive rides. Our lives do change, don't they.

Where did Harley go?

Wow, the gang’s nearly all here! Maybe we can resurrect this thread. Everyone has had so much happen in their lives, it’s amazing. I want to hear more. I’m fixing to be out the door again, clarinet lessons for my 9th grader but I’ll get back to this later.

Just as a quick update, I’m still having trouble getting back into the horses but I’m trying to force myself. Not sure if it will work or not. I’m so busy with the kids right now and with 2 kids in college, money is tight.

Sure is nice to see everyone here today!!!

Well, I’m not ‘out of horses’, but we still barely got a chance to ride this summer. Just went by too fast.

It was about this time we all headed to Oklahoma wasn’t it! That was a good time, and yes, we should get together again :~)

Another quick post. Becky, are you working now? I’ve thought about you often and wondered how you were doing. I noticed you have a facebook page.

Duchess, I’m so sorry for all you’ve been through. Everybody seems to have been through the wringer lately. I know it’s hard to come on here and talk about horses but since we have so much catching up to do, horses may be last on the list for awhile.

Anybody know what Cindydawg is up to?

I see CindyDawg on threads here every once in awhile although it's been a long time.

I guess it's been an eventful year for us all. Did I ever tell you Hair, how proud I am of the website you started? It really is great and you have the patience of a saint.

If I can still remember how to do it - here are a couple of pictures of Tuffy at the show. Janelle isn't allowed to show non-pro since she's not sole owner so she has to show against the professionals.

Remember Ghost, Bob's endurance gelding. This is him and the lady who bought him at the show. She is working with him in dressage.

And this is the water hole (spring) I've been off roading to and hunting arrowheads. My son in the picture and the range cattle that Zuni and her momma moved out of our way.

Ran out tonight after work and picked peppers, cucumbers, eggplant, corn, and tomatoes - everything that was close to ripe. It's way to windy (40 mile per hour gusts) to try to cover the garden so I'm just crossing my fingers that the weather report is right and low will only be 38'.

Your garden sounds heavenly. I’d like some peppers and tomatoes, please. Yummmmm

The pictures are gorgeous and I like the size. You can really see the horses.

Anybody ever heard of a store called Sam Moon? They have accessories like jewelry, purses, belts, etc at very good prices and it’s a huge store. I need birthday gifts so I may run over there today. I’ll try very, very hard not to buy anything for myself....

I’ve never heard of the store but it sounds like a great place to look for Christmas gifts too. It is hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner.

41’ this morning, think the garden probably made it through the night :)

Tuffy looks very good. He has really matured into a beautiful horse. Does she take him to many shows?

Are those range cattle wild? Do you find many arrowheads and do you collect for sale or own use?

That’s the only show Tuffy went to this year. He was bred to two mares this year, learned to rope and hold a cow, a bit of reining - he did okay in that but his heart wasn’t in it.

The cattle are tagged but range cattle, so pretty wild. They seem to be a cross between long horns and the mexican cattle used in rodeos.

Just looking for arrowheads for the fun of it, although it appears to me we have stumbled onto a permenant camp of sorts. We will eventually contact the tribal offices and let them know, it’s a site not known to any of the current indians or University archeaologists.

Thanks for the thoughts Tuffy:). I’m doing OK. Life seems a lot busier here living in town, so that keeps me busy, altho I was telling my kids the other day, I don’t do much:) I use about 1/4 of a tank of gas a week:).

Right now I’ve just been busy hanging around here working on finishing my apartment. Seems like I’m always waiting on someone. Good help is hard to find. I also keep the books for our company, but I’ve always done that. I’m have been learning to measure/bid lots to help Charlie out. Once the apartment is done, I may go to work somewhere, or I am also thinking about buying the flower shop that is in my building. It’s a good established small business, I’ve talked to them, and they would sell it. Seems like a good business that would give me plenty to do, but still leave time for a life. But mostly right now my life still feels like it’s in a holding pattern till I get my home finished.

MT: it surprises me too that I totally lost interest in horses. You’d think that would have been something that would help fill time. But it seems to me that horses became 99% work and 1% fun. A few months ago I was questioning myself if I really wanted to get rid of them, Then I had to haul Harley to the vet for yearly stuff, and while I was hooking up the trailer I knew I wanted to be done with them.

I pretty much just have Harley to a friend of Charlies, to keep from having to winter him. I kept telling everyone to make me an offer, he finally did, his wife is going to run barrels on him, and when/if he ever sells the horse they will split it with me, rather $500 or $5 million:) He went to a good home where he’ll be used and I don’t have the expense anymore so I’m OK with that.

So that’s my life up till now. The plumbers are here now putting in my bathtub, finally. 4 months of bathing in a dish pan sucks:)

When they are done I’ll post some pictures of the place. It looks nothing like it did when you all were here. It’s come out very nice, better then I expected. I’m kind of proud of how pretty it looks now.

I think I’m familiar with that flower shop. That sounds like a great business for you. There is a tiny florist shop in the little town I live in and they do a hopping business.

I would love to see pics of your new dwelling. Icertainly know how you feel about losing interest in horses. Since I’ve narrowed the herd down to such a manageable number, I’m thinking I should narrow it down even more. I could travel a little, my pasture would get a much needed rest and the stress of taking care of so many animals would be lessened.

I did get one new thing to ride: a schwin bike from walmart. I love it. I ride it all over the place, I don’t have to feed it and it hasn’t bucked me off. And it didn’t cost anywhere near what a horse costs. It won’t need the vet or farrier. To top it off, it’s a pretty color. Kind of a soft sea green.

A bike sounds good:) I have one too, but mine is so old and rusted, the hand brakes don’t work well, and it has a tire that needs replacing. I’d like to find just a plain bike like I had as a kid, no gears or hand brakes.

Go look at walmart, they have some fabulous retro looking bikes right now. Fenders, baskets, no gears, white wall tires, etc. That’s actually what I wanted but they are a little heavy and I need to be able to lift it.

See if I remember how to do this:

Kitchen

Office

Living room

Charlie's office

From the front door. The door in the red wall is to my bedroom, the door next to the fridge is the powder room

That has turned out so wonderful. I love the colors and the arrangement. It’s the perfect size. You did a great job designing and decorating. I’m amazed at how the choice of color for the walls and trim make the ceiling look so high.

Well, the ceilings are high, at least 10ft.

Here's some before pictures.
