I’m looking forward to pictures of Alison at shows through the summer. Now all she needs is a good app for the ApHC shows :)

As we get down on the number of horses, retirement gets closer. Finances right now just won’t work if I retire. I’m hoping things will fall together this summer and we’ll find homes for the rest and sell the land we have. The economy is really bad in Nevada but it looks like it might start picking up in the near future. Hay prices are down to half what they were last year which really improves the horse market. And California is tanking, which improves the real estate market.

I watched the videos of your new horse, he’s nice looking and a really nice mover. I keep hoping that if I retire, I can do some riding, maybe Indy or Farah. If I keep it at a walk I should be okay - at least that’s my theory :)

Yeah, it is nice to hear from you guys. So sad the thread kind of fizzled out. Maybe we just needed a break to gather up some new stories to tell:)

MT, so did you ride the new horse this weekend, or to busy with relatives?

Duchess, well, it is always something with horses, isn’t it:) Sounds like Tuffy is going to be a good horse. Have you ever grown to like him better? Isn’t he the one you weren’t that fond of?

It is a load off my mind to get rid of the house. We haven’t done much else with my apartment other then the wall to get my bed behind. Now that the house is sold I’m going to try to hire some of the work done. Charlie is so busy now that if I wait on him it will be winter, and besides, I hate having him have to do so much for me when he has his own family home to work on.

I’m sending Harley to be boarded at a place that sells good quality horses. The lady believes she can get him sold in 30 days, I’m crossing my fingers. He’ll stay there for a month so she can ride him so she knows what she is selling. If she doesn’t sell him he’ll go back to Kristy’s but the lady will still try to sell him. Kristy is doing great with him running barrels, we just don’t have much contacts or time to go thru the selling process.

Jenny has decided to keep Rocky. He moved down to her place about 3 weeks ago. I think he thinks he has died and went to heaven. They have much better pasture and no rocks to tip toe around:). I’m glad, I really didn’t want to sell him to someone I didn’t know. We’ve had him sooooo long, and Jenny pretty much grew up on him. She just worried about keeping a stud there, but we put up good fence with an alley way between him and any other horses he could nose with. It’s working just fine.

I am so glad you aren’t going to sell Rocky - he’s a one in a million. He’s always been well behaved about fences hasn’t he? He should do well at Jenny’s.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you all find a great home for Harley.

I’m pretty much convinced that Tuffy is a good horse and an exceptional stud. He and I never bonded at all but he adores Bob and will do anything that Janelle asks of him. And behaves like a gentleman all the time. Janelle sent me a video of him playing with his ball yesterday, I’ve put the link here.

Spent most of yesterday weeding my garden. It’s doing well, just slow because it has been cool and rainy here for so long.

Have a good day, I’m off to work.

The video of Tuffy and the ball is hilarious! Janelle sure knows how to keep a young stallion occupied and active. So much better than stalling him all the time. He looks great too! Doesnt look like he lost much color.

Wow, sorry about all the rain. Is that unusual for you guys? It has been very nice here. Not much rain at all. Our fair is in a couple weeks and it will rain then, for sure.

What all you have in your garden? Tomatoes, peppers, corn, cukes, carrots and green beans here in my little garden.

Good luck with selling Harley. Don't you think you will ever want another one? I didn't think I would, but here I am. That is good to hear that Jenny is keeping Rocky. He such a nice horse and what a disposition! I bet her kids are getting big. You will have to post some pictures of them.

Alison and I rode yesterday for a bit after she came back from the horse show. We went back in the woods. Other then where the 4-wheelers go, its pretty grown up. Today, I took the tractor, mowed and both of us did some clipping. Having branches slapping the horse and I in the face, dont cut it. :) We were going to go for a ride, but her other grandparents came back from vacation and she went over there. Hopefully, after the fair and these shows, we can do some camping and riding.

Kids are leaving tomorrow for a 5 day QH show. They are taking my trailer. Its about an hour or so drive. They will have different judges everyday, so its really 5 shows. Beats hauling all over the country.

I still have the ping list, but only posted to the people who would contribute. I know, I didnt check FreeRepublic much when the saddle club thread fizzled. Maybe some more will see that we are active again.

I asked her to take a video of Tuffy playing with his tarp for me. He runs around the arena with it in his teeth and it’s flying behind him like a flag or a cape. She tries to make even work fun for him, and he ends up giving 100% on it all.

We are having record rain here, as much rain in the past month as we usually get in a year. And staying about 20 degrees cooler than normal. We’re finally supposed to get up in the 90’s by the end of the week. It rained again today.

I’ve got corn, beans, squash, eggplant, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cabbage, onions and irish potatoes planted. Also, some carrots, okra, collard greens, radishes and lettuce. I’m hoping to fill the freezers this summer. We also got a couple of pigs that will go in the freezer come fall and plan on buying half a beef. I’m trying very hard to cut down on what I buy that isn’t organic, isn’t from Mexico, etc. That gets pretty expensive in the stores.

I hope you don’t get rain for the fair. The paper here today had an article saying “they” whoever that may be, believe we’ve got an El Nino year coming. If it’s not that, I’ll vote for a coming ice age.

Thats a lot of produce in your garden, bet it keeps you busy.

We are having rain today. Alison and Amy are at the show and getting wet. Alison showed in Showmanship this morning and got 9th out of 9. Chaser would not stand still for her in the rain.

I probably wont go to the show until Friday, unless the farrier on grounds can shoe Seco for me. He was a little ouchy on the rocks. Plus, his feet are pretty long. The other horses were done last week, so they will not be any one coming here for awhile.

Poor Alison, that probably didn’t make her real happy. Tell her from me, that’s better than getting the gate. I’ve seen shows where the judge wouldn’t even place last a misbehaving horse.

I don’t believe I have ever been able to say this, but it rained here today too. We had a double rainbow over the valley as I drove home and no weeding tonight, rain and wind. This has got to be a record for us, I’ll have to research it.

Hope you can get Seco some shoes at the show, good luck.

Wow, this thread really fizzled out. Becky, you doing ok? Duchess, how is your husband?
My latest is that George the Pony got real sick with Cushings and I had him euthanized. I gave Bud away to a guy that wanted a companion horse so he’s now living down in College Station. My best friend took Winnie the palomino to Kentucky to live with her. If and when she gets tired of taking care of her, she’ll bring her back. The only horse I have left is the little flashy black and white paint. I’m going to concentrate on her and possibly send her to a trainer. I still have the donkey and miniature horses and lots of dogs.
Anybody have any new stories to tell?

Hi there tuffy :~)

I’m sure sorry about your George.

We also had to have our bad pony Euthanized, her kidneys failed her, we tried a lot of things to help and they did for a while, but inevitably, her body just quit.

So we’re just down to Bay and Cyn, too many cats and the dogs.

This place is quiet partly because hubby and I started a horse forum, and that’s where I spend a lot of my time. Many from here, like Becky and Frog, are also members there, but I haven’t heard from frog in a long time. She gets blocked at work, so that’s a bummer. Duchess has drifted away, I wish she’d check in. Beaker wrote in a few weeks ago, she’s alright...

Here’s the addy for the forum if you want to check it out!

Oh Hair, I’m so sorry about Pony, I had no idea. How old was she?

George had gotten so old and sick it was sure time to let him go. He was also having kidney issues, he had no teeth to speak of and his health just got too hard for me to manage.

Yes, I would like to check out the other forum! Thanks for the invite...

I understand about George. You managed him well with his Cushings a lot of years!

Our pony was not old, only about 12. It's a mystery why she went into renal failure. Possibilities include that she may have had only one functioning kidney all along (vet only ever found one on the ultrasound), her food may have been too rich for her system (I was feeding one of those high protein ration balancers), we may have accidentally overdosed her on banamine during her colic episode in January, we just really don't know. Renal failure is not common in horses at all. There's a big ole thread over on the forum about what we went through (Pony Update and Diary (kidney disease) - Baywind Farm Horse Forum)

I see you just signed up over there, look forward to talking more with ya and finish catching up and talking about your filly project. :~)

I’m reading through the stuff and watching Pony’s video. Did you bury her on your place? I had George buried at the same place as Tuffy, a pet cemetery.

I’ll get back over there later, I have a million things to do today. Got a kid birthday this weekend to get ready for and I haven’t bought a thing.

I just finished Pony’s video, you sure did a good job.

Hello Tuffy, good to hear from you. Sorry about the pony, but its great that you are going to work with the beautiful paint filly. Your lost of your Tuffy was very hard on you and I am glad to hear you have an interest again. It took me a few years to get over the lost of my Appaloosa gelding before I even thought about getting another one.

In June I did buy a Peruvian gelding and have been camping and trail riding quite a bit. Mostly, haul by myself, but I did meet some people and have someone to ride with now. The kids showed all summer and Alison did very well again.

I signed up at the other thread and do check in over there. It’s really nice, but I miss the daily activity here.

Take care.

Hi guys, it’s good to hear from you, even if it’s such sad news.

Tuffy - I’m so sorry about George. Really glad you still have the black and white - Mina(?) - she’s just so beautiful.

Hair, man I’m sorry about Pony, you guys tried so hard on her. I’m glad she had you, it more than made up for her bad start in life.

Past year here has been kinda hard. We had to put Buddy, Bob’s queensland down, he went totally blind and wasn’t doing well physically or mentally with the blindness.

Then Sonny’s cancer came back with a vengence and we had to put him down - right after that Farah cracked her leg and she had to be put down. Guess you know those two left a huge hole in my heart. I haven’t been out to the barn since.

We still have Prez, Indy, Lace, Friday and CJ - they are all doing fine. And I still have my queensland, Zuni - she is partially blind but it doesn’t seem to bother her at all. Just last week she was moving range cattle out of the way so I could hunt for arrowheads.

Garden grew like gangbusters this year. We are due for a freeze tonight, tomorrow night and Thursday night. I’m hoping covering it partially with tarps will keep my tomatoes and peppers safe.

Hair, I’ll get over to your board here eventually I promise. Talking horses is kind of a bummer for me right now.

MissTargets - Tuffy went to an ApHC show the end of August here in Carson City. Beat the big guys, qualified for the world again, this time hunter in hand. Guess he’s a keeper.

Take care every one.

Oh I’m so sorry for your losses.

I wish we’d been in better touch to support each other through these sad times.

I am glad to hear from you, and when you come over to the forum, post some of those winning Tuffy pictures!
