FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

...Is this a State Park?...

No, it was a private horse camp. Our temps were in the low 80's, but it's supposed to get down to the lower 70's by this weekend so that should be about PERFECT!

Sounds like you and Alison had a great time even if you didn't ride. I like lazy weekends like that sometimes.

So how is your therapy going? Any idea when you'll be able to ride again?

Therapy is doing well...one more session. There should be no reason, that I will not be able to ride again. My back does get sore and probably always will. With all the work I have been doing around here, that stands to reason. The trainer at therapy was showing me today how to bend and pick things up without hurting yourself. That will take some practice, learning to keep my upper part straight and bending the knees.

Amy and I hauled in quite a few logs from the woods again. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed the ride on the 4-wheeler.

I hope the weather holds for your ride this weekend. We are suppose to get rain staring Weds.

Thanks about Alison and the pathway.

Gosh, I hate to hear that you weather is turning bad already. Fall can be such a beautiful time of year.

We skipped fall and jumped right into winter here. It was 28 degrees driving into work this morning. Beautiful day here though with lots of sunshine even if it is cold.

Sorry your weather turned cold already. Can't wait for the pics of your horses.

MT-walk and landscaping looks great. Looks like alot of planning and work. Be careful and don't mess your back up. Great haul for Alison. We took Daisy Oct. 4th show and she got a ribbon for all 4 classes we entered. 1st, 2ond, 4th, and 5th. There were 14 horses in all the classes, but 9 in spotted. People we didn't even know were clapping and calling out my number to the judge and saying she was the best. It was exciting. Camera froze again; no pics. I guess I can make a pic of her ribbons, just to prove we really were there!

We camped 2 nites at Many Cedars where Beth's pics were taken. We were in the woods when she got there and left before she came out. We had to leave early and go to a wedding. Hated to leave, it was so gorgeous. Weather was perfect. Cool in the woods and leaves turning couldn't have been nicer. Hal took Sasha back to the cow sale today and said she ran BULLS and bit one on the butt for not going fast enough. I wish I could see it. I've got a nibble on the internet ad from a COWBOY that rodeo's. Wish me luck.

Faith and I in the creek behind the campsite. Some of the water was belly deep on her and she is TALL.

Jimmy Cook and Shirley in the creek

A hornet nest on the side of the rock. No stings this time!

A small waterfall up the creek from the rock

Overlook of the big lake in the hills

Sasha after working her some. More muscle and less fat. Some dappling coming out, too!

Great pictures! That rock wall behind the camp really was pretty. I didn’t get a picture of it. The hornet’s nest was cool...from a distance of course! There sure were some big@ss hills on those trails. I think that’s about the steepest place we’ve been, but it was pretty. I’d go back there.

Sasha looks great too. I’m glad she’s found a calling. That’s funny about her biting the bull’s butt. I’d love to have seen it too. Some cutting horses do that but I think they take points off for it at a competition. I guess they don’t want their stock getting chewed up, so Hal probably ought to discourage it before it becomes a habit, in case who ever buys her wants to compete.

Hal took me Sunday to the place he said I didn't have a horse that would make it. We went on the ranger. I have pictures and videos. There were 4 wheelers out there climbing them for fun. I have videos of them, too. It is not really that the hills are too steep for a horse, although they were steeper than any at Many Cedars. There were just one after another and for a long way. You would have to stop after every 2 or 3 climbs and let them rest. The 1st one the ranger couldn't make it up and the 2ond one I was afraid it was gonna flip over backwards. They weren't much worse than the one behind the blue chicken houses we go up to get to Beulah road to ride.

I think Hal pretty well has his hands full at the sale barn just staying on Sasha. By the way he talks she spins so fast it 'bout slings him off when she goes back for another cow. I may have to close on a Monday pm to see it!

Sometimes I think people riding 4-wheelers up near vertical walls for fun are just plain crazy. It’s like they’re not really happy until it DOES turn over with them.

One of them was the guy that just married the girl that’s daddy built the mansion down the road from our old house and gave her his old house. Think he’s unhappy?

Depends on how bad the stock market hit him. He may be wishing for a smaller house if things don’t get better soon!

He just laid off his main foreman for lack of work. Not the son-in-law, but the daddy. If you are a contractor and nobody is lending money for new construction, and you just built a multi-million dollar house w/furnishings & landscaping, you may be in trouble. The grand piano was 100K alone.

I was planning on that too. I know AUequine lives in that area. Maybe there’s some others too.

I'm just testing hotlinking a picture outside the forum.

I could’ve told you already that that worked. I did it with my last weekend’s ride pictures. Baywind is the only place I can still upload and post pictures from work. So thank you for that!

BUT, I did find out that they didn’t hotlink on another forum, so it’s not entirely foolproof. You can’t have it all I guess. But as long as they work here and on Baywind, I’m happy.

Ah - I didn’t realize you’d posted from there :)

They don’t apparently work at horse.com, probably for the same reason snapfish pics didn’t, because they’re rather nonstandard URLs that get generated from those albums, not a standard .jpg extension.

Aw man... I’m sorry! I’ve been postin’ over at our forum.

HaveFaith joined this morning... I think she decided there was no action here too, and maybe a little too much at the other place!
