This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I’ll let you know if what I’m using works.
That’s exactly what my husband said!
So did you get dumped on last night Becky?
Good morning everyone. Tuffy, glad to see you check in. :~)
Our weekend was quietly productive, picked up all the apples from the apple tree so the horses can finally be back in the back forty where all the good grass is right now.
Didn’t ride. Weren’t ready to get it all together and go... but I do want to lunge Bay this week and see how he’s doing and such. I feel like I’ve just been throwing food at him lately and don’t even really know how he’s been feeling.
Strong winds all day and last night, did quite a bit of damage here. Alison didnt have school, because a tree took out a power line. I had the scanner on and there were a lot of tress down. We were lucky to have kept our power, but the people across the way lost theirs.
We were at the horse show yesterday and it was pretty windy there. Last night, it really was worse. Temps were in the mid 80's and very humid. Conditions were ripe for a bad storm, but all it did was sprinkle. Today, is much cooler and cloudy.
Those 60-70 MPH wind gusts sure are scary. Its hard to imagine how the over 100 ones are.
I hope everyone is safe and sound.
John McCain and Sarah Palin are going to be in the area tomorrow. I received a call from the RNC on this event and where to pick up tickets. It might be fun to go to. When President Bush came, I didnt get to go, but Maureen did.
Aw geeze... I didn’t know the winds were still that high, I thought you’d just get a lot of rain.
I’d go too, if they came anywhere near here. They never come here. I wonder if maybe Palin will this time because she’s sortof “local”.
I think I will got out and see if I can get tickets. With a strong Democratic/Union area as this one is, tickets might not be too hard to come by. They are Free too!
Nope we didn’t get anything, all day yesterday and today are beautiful fall days. Pretty blue skies, crisp in the morning and warming nicely in the afternoon.
All we got from the hurricane was a few hours of rain Sat night. So much for the weathermen:)
I’ve seen it this morning! Very well done. :~)
Glad to hear that you didn’t have any major damage from the hurricane. We didn’t have any bad weather from it but we DID feel some effects from it in the form of panic buying at the gas stations over fear of a shortage if the refineries in Houston were damaged or destroyed.
It started late Thursday and by Friday afternoon Regular gas had gone up from $3.50 to $4.65 and even as high as $5.35 at some stations, and the lines were incredible. A lot of stations were completely out by Saturday. It got so bad that the governor declared a state of emergency so that the Price Gouging laws could be put into effect. It was just crazy, and the darned thing hadn’t even made landfall yet. And the strange thing about it is that now diesel is cheaper than regular, after being .50 a gallon higher for all this time. If it keeps this up I guess I’ll start driving the truck again.
Glad everyone’s OK. We left to go to Pigeon Forge, TN to an old car show Friday after work. Gas was anywhere from 4.49 to 4.99 and the front page of the Knoxville paper said hit by gas shortage. When we got home there was a 10 gallon limit at the stations. A friend that works for a gas station said not to worry, there would be plenty by Tues. (tomorrow). Any reason to jump the price, I guess. We did have to pay $4.49 in TN to get home.
I loved it. A friend emailed me the link.
My dogs have had spots this summer. I gave them a piece of a Lamisil tablet and it was better in 1 day and drying up in 2. It’s almost gone after 3 days.
You’d probably have to give a horse 5-10 tablets to get the same dosing level. I think that’s what they tell you if you’re trying to give them something like benadryl tabs.
You haven’t given us a kitten update lately. How are they doing?
I still herd them into the cage at night but may stop doing that if they can learn to stop provoking Barkley when I'm not watching to call him off! By next week, Wicket will need the cage for a few to several days to recover from her spay (Tues).
Here's pictures! Jack is a cad... he's a beautiful cat, and he swaggers around like he owns the place (just don't touch me!) He likes to climb on the new saddle rack.
Note Jack on my pillows...
Sometimes the pets-per-square-foot quota around here is about as high as it can get... it's a little nuts.
I think little Peanut, if she were the only one, could live in this house indefinitely as a quiet, seldom-seen and never-heard little ghost in the house. She's a timid sweet thing. But if I can sidle in to her, I come the closest to being able to actually pet her.
Well, they look happy and healthy, even if they won’t let you pet them.
Jack sure does look like he’s settled in, the way he’s taken to your pillows. And the saddle rack picture is just hilarious. You’d think that slick thing would be the LAST thing he’d want to climb on.
Peanut sure looks like a sweet little thing. Hopefully they’ll both warm up the longer they stay in the house.
Well, their curiosity may do them in, the longer they live here with us. They walk all over the desk and run all over the house, running into us by accident sometimes (that’s how they keep getting into trouble with Barkley) or sniffing my hand while it’s on the mousepad. If I move just a little they go “oh no!” and run... but then they come back and look again.
Jack is the only one who has mastered the saddle rack. He climbs all over it. Wicket and Peanut both fell off when they tried to follow and haven’t tried again. I have a feeling that will change when the saddles are on it. Then I’ll have to decide how to deal with that.
I arrived around 1 PM and didn't get out of there until almost 7. We had to park at another area and they shuttled us in on buses. People were getting very rude and pushing and shoving to get on. Finally, I just sat on the grass and waited about an hour until the crowd thinned down.
I did take some photos, but of course I was too far back in the crowd to get good ones. It was fun and is something that I would not normally do.
I think this plane was a support group.
Lots of media there.
Governor Palen (in middle, wearing black). I tried to zoom in, but those came out blurry.
Senator McCain.
Senator McCain is supposed to be staying in the area tonight at someone's home. His plane.
The hanger were the rally was held. This is owned by the fellow who invented The Club.
The long lines waiting on buses from my view point, sitting on the grass.
Cool perspective! I’ve never been to an event like that. I wouldn’t have liked a big crowd either, and it sounds like a REALLY long day.
