This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
We used to use Shutterstock, but my husband sold enough with istock to become exclusive, which makes his royalties go up. I have been told that some people do a lot better with Shutterstock and prefer them over the other stock photography sites.
Sure hope your shoulder injury will not require surgery.

Some are stallions. Most are pregnant mares. They are all likely to go to slaughter houses in Mexico if they are not rescued. Here's the three paragraphs of the article. They are all in good condition and have their Jockey Club papers. Please click the link to read the entire piece, and donate if you can, or help in some other way. You'll be helping just by spreading the word among your horse-loving friends and families:
A Thoroughbred retirement facility in Southern California is seeking public support in its attempt to save 46 horses culled from a large-scale breeding farm in the region that are awaiting possible sale at an auction lot in Chandler, Ariz.Priscilla Clark, president of Tranquility Farm in Tehachapi, Calif., said that unless her facility can raise the money to buy and place the Thoroughbreds, which include six stallions and 40 pregnant broodmares, they would be put up for sale with an uncertain future. Most would likely be slaughtered, she claims.
"The plan is to procure as many of the horses as possible and put them in a safe situation," Clark said.
The forecast is that we will be back in the 80’s by this coming weekend, today is the last day for a while anyway that we will be over 100.
The 80’s will feel positively balmy after all the heat you’ve been having.
So who’s birthday party did you go to?
It was a great nephews 8th birthday. My brothers grandson.
I enjoyed visiting with him and my dad, and my brother’s ex:)
I am looking forward to the 80’s:)
Well, find someplace cool today then!
I just made an appointment for Wicket to get shots today and then we’ll make an appointment for spaying. She’s really been wanting to go outside, and we’ve let her on the line, but I want her to have shots before she’s allowed out any more. I don’t want her getting bitten by a distempered possum or anything else that’s under the house.
Today is definitely a day to do indoor work:). I’ve been rearranging my desk down here. I hadn’t really set it up in an organized way. But I’m all set up now.
Tomorrow I’m taking JP to the lake to go fishing and swimming with a friend of mine and her grandkids.
Did you see the post about Wicket going in today? I think you said it was OK cash-flow wise but I want to make sure.
Enjoyed our phone call!
I was gonna say, part of what might have been interesting about our task yesterday of putting up the temp fence around the apple tree, was that I decided we needed to show it to the horses during daylight so they didn’t just walk into it in the night!
Well I just put a lead rope around Bay’s neck and walked him back there, and his hold over those mares is not nearly as strong as he’d like to think. He danced around and circled and hollered to them and acted like a real jerk, and I ended up with the rope over his nose to try to keep ahold of him but that left me with a pretty short lead left I thought he might walk right over the top of me.
And those mares ignored him. They couldn’t give a hoot that he was gone out of sight. ecurbh finally got some grain and led them back there with that. Showed them the fence, and then Bay had to run off all that adrenaline for the next 10 minutes, running those mares around trying to re-assert himself.
Poor guy.
Anyhow, I have to get dressed for town and take that Wicket kitten in. I bet everyone else is overdue for shots too. I wonder if my horse vet would just stock a few doses for the dogs and cats too, when he comes for farm calls, it would sure be easier than trying to get everyone else in. You think he would?
Kari entered in 3 classes, I don't remember the names, but she got 1 First Place and 2 Second Place ribbons. One of the 2nds was in the Water Glass class. There were 4 other guys in the ring with her who all had pretty smooth horses, so I was pretty impressed that she got 2nd.
Here's her picture. I had to lighten it up some so it may look a little strange...
And here's a picture of a friend who's showing another friend's horse. He took home a blue ribbon or two also...
And here's a link to a video of a third friend who was carrying the flag for the National Anthem. He won First Place in the Speed Racking class, although this isn't his fast gait here, just his cruising-along-the-trail speed. I just really love the looks of this little horse!
Ah - beautiful! I love the matching boooots!
So your horse vet doesn’t do dogs and cats at all? How strange! All the vets around here are trying to get away from large animal practice so you’re lucky to find one at all, but they still do small animals. They say that’s where there best money is.
You might could get your vet to vaccinate all your other critters if you gave him enough notice to order the vaccines, if he didn’t already have them.
Yeah, those were some fancy ones. Cowboy boots. May have been Ostrich, may have been Alligator, I’m not sure.
I forgot to ping you to your show picture...
Well, my vet is a rather odd duck. He only does large animal clients as part of his “normal” practice, and he doesn’t even have a clinic, just a truck. It’s all mobile.
But on the side, he does lots of specialized orthopedic surgeries on all kinds of animals, from dogs to cats to horses. He’s making quite a name for himself, actually, consulting for other vet clinics all over the area who have difficult surgeries come up that they either can’t do or don’t want to do. That’s his real talent. Putting legs back together.
I’ve lately been having a sneaking suspicion that I’m going to lose him as my vet eventually. He’d rather do these surgeries than shots and sheaths, can make a good living just doing a surgery or two a week and windsurfing the rest of the time.
But the other vet I’d switch to is an equine only vet also.
Yup, it's fine.
Ok - good - I’m about to leave with her... wish us luck!
Hey, I can understand that. I'd do it too if I could get away with it, 'cept for me it'd be riding the rest of the time.
I can understand it too... that’s why I fear we’re going to lose him. He’s only got a few ongoing full care clients now, those of us who are grandfathered in.
Wicket is back from the vets. They stuck her with needles and poked her, but she was very sweet and easy about the whole thing. :~)
