Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.
Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.
1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.
2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.
3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.
There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.
There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.
I think he is evil.
Luna was almost too sweet and not nearly weird enough. It seemed to me that they were trying to set up a Harry/Luna match.

Yep, it's a combination of the two big scenes in which George and Fred were involved in the book, but leaves out some things from the second one.

Yeah, and we'll only have the two American versions for several days before my British one arrives. So Clare and Joseph will read it before I get the chance to do so. They're good about not spoiling, though. I'll just have to avoid the threads about it on FR!
Neither do I, so that's why Harry Potter is so much fun to read. It's FICTION, and most kids are smart enough to understand that. It's an awful lot of fun to IMAGINE, though, that one has those kinds of powers.
We had two theaters packed last night. It was the first time we've gone at midnight and I don't think we'll do it again. There was a lot of cheering and clapping going on for the "good stuff", I feel like I missed a lot of dialogue.
Aside from specific word changes to be more American friendly, are there many differences between the two versions?
I don’t think there are any substantive differences, with the exception of the book covers. The British covers are more ‘adult’ and less cartoonish than the American ones. I just like having a full set of the British ones.
Snape is definitely NOT evil... but I’m dying to find out what hold Dumbledore had over him to make him play out that scene in HBP and take Malfoy’s place.
If any of you recall, one of the kids overheard him arguing with Dumbledore over not doing something... and I’m positive it was that final “kill” scene.
Curious though...Dumbledore set his own death up...either planned or accidental. Hmmmmmm......
I many be one of the few who is still not convinced that Dumbledore is dead. If Snape didn’t ‘mean it’ when he pronounced the curse, it may have been just for show, to make Malfoy and the other Death Eaters think he’d killed Dumbledore so they could tell Voldemort that Snape had done it. That just cements Snape’s place among the Death Eaters and gives the Order a valuable spy in their midst.

Wait.... remember, he appears asleep in a portrait in his old office (now McG’s office).... maybe like Obi Wan in Star Wars, he becomes more powerful (and helpful) in death?
Still I can see him sacrificing himself to save another...in this case, the little but good part of Draco...
