I many be one of the few who is still not convinced that Dumbledore is dead. If Snape didn’t ‘mean it’ when he pronounced the curse, it may have been just for show, to make Malfoy and the other Death Eaters think he’d killed Dumbledore so they could tell Voldemort that Snape had done it. That just cements Snape’s place among the Death Eaters and gives the Order a valuable spy in their midst.

Oooouuuuuu! I like the way you think....but I need to re-read the scene with Hagrid picking up his body and Harry looking at him....
Wait.... remember, he appears asleep in a portrait in his old office (now McG’s office).... maybe like Obi Wan in Star Wars, he becomes more powerful (and helpful) in death?
Still I can see him sacrificing himself to save another...in this case, the little but good part of Draco...
but you’re right, it makes Snape’s cover look really good now...
BTW..did anyone see the sign the guy was carrying last week at that Nathan’s Hot Dog competition..talk about trying to be a spoiler!!! No, don’t ask unless you send it private...

I don't think you are amongst "the few". I think the same thing ... and have since I read HBP. There's a site out there, can't remember where it it, that takes the Dumbledore death and funeral scenes and deconstructs them in detail to show the evidence that Dumbledore didn't die. I can't remember every piece, but one is how when Dumbledore gets hit by the Avada Kaveda (sp?) spell his body doesn't react like the others who get hit with it throughout the series. His body DOES react exactly like another well-used spell, however.

Dumbledore having a phoenix as a pet, a bird which keeps dying and returning. The group being named Order of the Phoenix. Malfoy being told that the order could hide him from the Death Eaters by faking his death. Etc, etc.
I half expect Dumbledore to come charging out of that gateway in the Department of Mysteries at the climax to the last book. I think that gateway has a big role to play
