Bigotry and intimidation defeated the immigration bill more than anything else.
Right-wing media pundits and their ultraconservative followers spewed a systematic and steady stream of vitriol that was so extreme that even Senate Republicans complained.
"There's racism in this debate," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., reacting to the tone used by the immigration bill's opponents.
Ever since the immigration issue picked up steam last spring, an increasingly nasty tone of hatred and intolerance has been directed at Hispanics in America.
LOL..just imagine what would happen if the country was looking at the possibility of an instant super minority of illegal French.
U.S. Constitution, Article 4 Section 4:
"The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government,
1. The act of invading; the act of encroaching upon the rights or possessions of another; encroachment; trespass.
Last time I checked the anti-illegal immigration folks didn’t field a “civil rights” organization called “The Race” with a motto of “For those withing the Race, everything; for those outside the Race, nothing.”
The racism is mostly on the other side.
Well, no...but they didn't necessarily want to kill them just because they were Latino. If they wanted to shoot them for being illegal border crossers rather than for being Latin-American, that might make them cruel...but it wouldn't make them racist.
We need to keep the Country intact as a springboard of Freedom. In other words..if we import a large portion of another culture too quickly and they do not assimilate then we loose part of the culture of Freedom. Why is that good for anyone W?
Make The DHS build the fence and get control of the flow.
You don’t mind if I pray for him do you??
When did he ever say he would deport Mexicans?? He is his own man and that is what you don’t like.
Pray for W and Our Troops
I understand that we need more workers and I understand that we need more bodies with a moral sense to defeat future enemies but there is a real danger of the collapse of the fabric within the Country if the threads are sown too hastily or knitted too loosely.
Americans are keenly aware of a danger...most can not place it in words but they know it is there. Individual states are taking the threat seriously and creating thier own laws to send the problem elsewhere but this only serves to put tension on the union.
The bill is dead..but our borders are still open. As most of the bills supporters stated...something needs to be done and it needs to be done now.
Playing the race card yet again, I see.

I tend to get mad when they don’t speak English because they refuse to learn it and then get welfare, free medical care, all the usual perks etc — and aren’t even citizens! They think they have the right to be here. No, they have the right to apply for citizenship and then become citizens IF they can provide for themselves and be productive citizens.
The real issue is not a bunch of people who we don’t want being here. The real issue is the erasure of our nation’s borders. This is a violation of our national sovereignty and the beginning of the North American Union.
I mean, if they weren't racists, why would they lend their political capital to a violently anti-American organization called "the Race"?
So what? Many Mexicans and other hispanics are as racist as the day is long. Are you really that easily manipulated?
Maybe you should go talk to LaRaza or MEChA or LULAC about it.
OH BS!
Is it the brown color that Americans don't like or is it the different language or is it the fact that too many don't care to learn the language and many think this is their land not Americans? Just because some people don't like Mexicans doesn't mean that in any way defines the issue for the majority. I think many browns from Mexico illegally don't like whites, or blacks for that matter.
The problem with people like you is that you are using the same argument for illegals that liberals have used against Conservatives for years and that is the race card. We have fought that kind of attack for 40 years and I will be damned if I would let supposedly one of my own use it on me.
If 12 million Mexicans came to the U.S., learned the language, learned Americans history and culture like others must, learn the Presidents and important American holidays, renounced allegiance to Mexico and swore allegiance to the U.S. are you saying Conservatives and Republicans wouldn't welcome them with open arms because they have brown skin? Is that what you are saying?
Geraldo and Sammy Sosa are the same race as you and I are. Check any first-year biology book.
“There’s racism in this debate,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., reacting to the tone used by the immigration bill’s opponents.
Heres some more racists for you, as follows:
You Don’t Speak for Me! Formed when Col. Al Rodriguez became fed up watching media coverage of the mass protests of April. Their leaders were saying it was a march for immigrant rights and a Latino/Hispanic movement, says Rodriguez. I thought to myself, ‘Hey, those are illegal aliens, not immigrants!’ Col. Rodriguez began speaking out to others saying, I’m of Hispanic ancestry and those people are acting like they speak for me. Well, you don’t speak for me!”
>Most Mexicans are Brown and generally not liked by Americans so racism is a reality.<
Please, do not try to push your own prejudices onto the rest of us.
