The horror.
This morning the Washington Pravda (called the Post by the evangelists of the left) is running a piece that leaves absolutely no comfort whatsoever in the hearts of those desiring to protect the American Way.
President Bush appears to have caved on the subject of Global Warming.
No kidding.
The President yesterday took the initiative to put the United States out in front in agreeing to goals for reducing so-called greenhouse gas emissions--in particular, carbon dioxide. The President outlined this in his speech for his priorities at the G8 summit next week in Germany.
The problem is fundamental. Carbon dioxide is the end product of the process of combustion--the key to liberating energy from the most efficient of fuels. While it is true there is more than simply a casual relationship between the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the ability to retain radient energy (the planet would be unlivable if this were not true as the surface temperature would be well below zero), no one has been able to answer a fundamental question--what is the mathematical relationship between the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and temperature change. Is it linear? Doesn't appear to be, otherwise planet temperatures would be far higher now as carbon levels have gone up by tens of percentage points over the last decades. So what is it?
Talk has been made of a so-called "tipping point", the point at which carbon dioxide levels would cause temperature increases. Again--what is that level? No one seems to be able to have an answer.
Then there is the anecdotal information available to everyone. Supposedly the planet is warming, but there have been record snowfalls over the northern United States in recent years--indeed, just a couple of years ago northern Virginia received over 60 inches of snow during the winter!
Simply stated, from iceagenow.com, you cannot say its getting warmer when the refrigerator is getting colder.
As has been pointed out on numerous occassions, the meteorological process that generates the east coast blizzards associated with the nor'easter storms requires the collision between warm and cold air masses. As cold air cannot hold as much water vapor as warm air (and the colder the air, the less water vapor it holds), the moisture is squeezed out of the tropical portion of the storm and falls. The greater this temperature difference, the more efficient the process--in other words, more precipitiation. Of course, if the difference is great enough, the cold side is below freezing at the surface, causing snow.
It is also well established that soil changes temperature far more readily than water (in fact, changing the temperature of water requires the transfer of more energy per unit of mass than just about any other substance). People usually intuitively know this--that's why we throw water on a fire to put it out.
Intuition would also suggest that if snowfall levels are increasing, then the process for creating such must be working better--and that there is more cold air available to create the outcome.
Problem is, all the hot air surrounding the subject of global warming is apparently melting people's common sense.
Unfortunately, the President seems to have joined that crowd.

Wonder what is making the price of milk go up,on local news they said the price of a gallon of milk will be $5.00 by Christmas, it is $3 plus now (?)
they than compared that to a gallon of gasoline......:)
I'll post links then have to skedaddle, but I'll be back to post later. It's been a busy week....busier than I'd planned.
There is more than likely a link between the requirement to sell more ethanol-enriched gasoline (what once upon a time used to be called gasahol) and the price of milk.
Have you noticed that corn isn't making its usual seasonal drop in cost? Or at least not as much?
Corn is being moved into the gasoline world to stretch the supply coming out of refineries.
Problem is, the ability to produce corn, while it can grow, can only grow so fast. Until then, supply and demand is driving things. So corn becomes more expensive.
And corn is part of the feed grain for cows. So, the product of cows--milk--will go up too.

So far it looks like we are going to have a good day even if we do need more rain.
I have a show out of my front door today, both roosters having a crowing contest and are squaring off ready to fight it out, apparently over Hill-o-ree.
I am going to plant some shrubs today around the big house and thinking about putting a few around my ‘Shack in the back’. I an going to put me a screen door on my front, and of course you ALL know that if you put a small piece of cotton on the sine it will keep the flies out.
Time is getting short to adopt J.T., they check his speech, his anger problem which he has and just a general physical checkup. Soon, we pray, he will be a member of our family and I will send a picture of him when this is done. He is 100% boy and now he has a home, a loving home.
Time to start thinking of a little girl to adopt. Of course I suggested a 22 year old blond but D scratched that idea.
My chicks are starting to eat ‘big boy’ chicken feed, they are growing like mad. Like I have said, time to think about an addition onto the oval office.
Wear a smile today when you meet people, a good morning or good afternoon is in order and it will surely make someone feel good.

Raven, I tuned into Limbaugh yesterday in time to hear him discuss the Henninger WSJ piece which I'd similarly found distressing earlier in the day yesterday.
A gallon of moonshine whisy coast 2.50 a gallon, THAT stuff will run anything.
Ahhh, okay now I see the correlation.

And today I will eat a bowl of oatmeal..
If corn gets scarce and/or too expensive, Toby, you’ll have to save your grits for special occasions....or plant a money crop to cover their cost. (I have seeds for money plants. Need some? LOL)
