1978-U.S. release of Dire Straits first single "Sultans of Swing."
1978-Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr play together for the first time since the break-up of The Beatles, at the wedding reception of Eric Clapton and Patti Boyd. Clapton, Mick Jagger, and Ginger Baker joined in.

Pete Townshend, b. 1945 (he didn't die before he got old!)

I have three or four Sparks albums on vinyl, haven't listened to them in years. I didn't know they were still around. I didn't see too much of the old stuff on YouTube.

He used to have a show on XM called Crossroads. That was cancelled. He also shows up regularly on CMT in the “greatest hits of xxxxx” series.
