The Dragonflies' Lair ~ Thread XXXVII~May, June 2007

My Dragonfly and Me

If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!

By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone

On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...

And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...

Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

Ah, the West Coast is up and running! I have no plans at the moment. Do you have plans, oh probably you’ll be working.

Weather is great today, humidity took a jump over night. No a/c installed yet, but it’s not all that hot yet.

Yes, you guessed it correctly. That facility is open 24/7. Although I have been invited to a cookout on Monday. Happy to hear that the weather is great. Great weather sets the mental mood for the day.

Morning, Ms Feather!

I think I'm ruining my image...guess I'll have to post some of my "regular" pictures to you...LOL!

No big plan for the weekend; do a little yard work, IF we don't get the rain that's in the forecast for Chicago. If it does rain, then I do my "entertainment guru" stuff for Proud Patriots!

Local Memorial Day service Sunday at our Veteran's Memorial. "Rotten child" will be there with me, rain or shine. We have the Traveling Viet Nam Wall on display this year! It'll be up tonight, with a Candle Light Vigil.

I joking told them I would go if they were cooking Nathan’s hot dogs. Kind of pushy isn’t it?

My first Nathan’s was when I visited Coney Island loved them ever since. Oscar Mayer, Hebrew National and Bar S are all good but not as good as Nathan’s.

Memorial Day

  The bugle echoes shrill and sweet,
But not of war it sings today.
The road is rhythmic with the feet
Of men-at-arms who come to pray.

The rose blossoms white and red
On tombs where weary soldiers lie;
Flags wave above the honored dead
And martial music cleaves the sky.

Above their wreath-strewn graves we kneel,
They kept the faith and fought the fight.
Through flying lead and crimson steel
They plunged for Freedom and the Right.

May we, their grateful children, learn
Their strength, who lie beneath this sod,
Who went through fire and death to earn
At last the accolade of God.

In shining rank on rank arrayed,
They march, the legions of the Lord;
He is their Captain unafraid,
The Prince of Peace. . . who brought a sword.

Alfred Joyce Kilmer

Thank you for posting this reminder to honor those that served and those that gave all in order that we may currently enjoy our freedom.

Memorial Day

  It was enough to make us weep,
half a dozen veterans of the last great war
looking like fading away,
followed by the high school band,
booming bravely into adulthood.
Next a squad in Civil War uniform,
harking back to the source of the holiday,
a fratricide that seems today
almost as if it occurred in another country,
not just another century.
Then making up in creativity
what our town lacks in size
a retired Humvee
with a small girl in back
wearing a grunt style cap
and waving mechanically;
vintage cars,
big ones from a century ago
with wooden spokes
and other vestiges of their carriage genes,
still boxy ones from the 20s,
the streamlined 30s,
the fishtailed 50s,
a couple of Mustangs, an early Corvette;
then the fire engines, big and bigger,
like armor-plated rhinos,
our town’s brigade riding old fashioned red,
others yellow,
sage green from a well-heeled nearby town;
delegations of Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies,
one scout troop with a five-piece band
trying like twenty-five;
a motorcycle club,
plenty of paunch and gray hair,
and, though some ponytails,
suburban angels rather than Hell’s.
Finally a platoon of kids
all safely helmeted,
one tireless on a pogo stick
others on scooters and bikes
and even a few on tricycles,
training for future wars.

Richard Greene

Hot momma, hot, no a/c yet. I had to go shopping, thought I would melt.

My outside plants were drying up, had to water them very well.

Stay in the a/c if you have it and play this game if “borrowed” from Kathy In Alaska.

Swat the bicyclists.

Time to jump in the shower with your clothes on?

A couple years ago we picked up a little $99 AC that was light enough for me to pick up - actually has a handle on the top. That might be a idea for when you have to wait.

The little one comes in handy almost every year. When a room needs a boost I toss it in a window.

I could do that okay, I hate wet clothes though.

Good idea on the small a/c.

Last year I put the a/c in the window myself and really screwed up my back for months. I am waiting this year.

Lovely poem and graphic, thanks.

Funny game. We need that sort of thing when the real cyclists get crazy in the Bay Area.
