SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - When the aliens finally invade Earth, you may wish you had listened to Travis Taylor and Bob Boan.
And if the invasion follows the plot of a typical Hollywood blockbuster, they might also be the guys called in at the last minute to save the day.
After all, they have written "An Introduction to Planetary Defense," a primer on how humanity can defend itself if little green men wielding death rays show up at our cosmic doorstep.
And yes, they're serious.
"The probability really is there that aliens exist and are old enough to have technology to enable them to come here," Taylor said in an interview.
Taylor and Boan are hardly basement-dwelling paranoids obsessed with tinfoil hats and Area 51. Taylor holds advanced degrees in astronomy and physics, and is an associate at consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. He and Boan have done consulting work for the Defense Department and the U.S. space agency NASA.
But their views have won few audiences outside of science fiction conventions, and their book is published by BrownWalker Press, which specializes in fringe topics and books with titles like "The Science and Lore of the Plant Cell Wall" and "ESP and Psychokinesis."
Taylor acknowledged alien invasion is hardly a mainstream concern but said it is naive to assume -- as scientists like the late Carl Sagan did -- that any beings advanced enough to master star travel will have evolved beyond war.
"It's a wonderful idea that has no basis in reality," Taylor said.
FERMI'S BLUNDER?
Taylor and Boan -- along with co-authors R.C. Anding and T. Conley Powell -- revisit two issues that frequently pop up in the debate about whether homo sapiens is alone in the universe: Drake's Equation and Fermi's Paradox.
The formula drawn up by U.S. astronomer Frank Drake in 1960 tries to estimate how likely contact with an alien civilization is given factors such as the number of habitable planets.
Taylor and Boan plugged in what they felt were conservative estimates, such as that aliens cannot travel faster than 10 percent of the speed of light.
After crunching the numbers, they say it is possible that our Milky Way galaxy harbors thousands of intelligent alien species and that there is a "high probability" that one or two of them visit Earth every century.
But if there are so many aliens out there, why haven't we heard from them already?
That is the question famously posed by the physicist Enrico Fermi in 1950 to dismiss speculation by his colleagues that intelligent life should be routine.
Taylor and Boan are convinced Fermi got it wrong. Even if aliens used Godlike technology to jump across thousands of light years in a single day, they would still need millions of years to explore all the star systems in the galaxy.
They simply may not have stumbled across our neck of the woods yet.
MUJAHIDEEN-STYLE RESISTANCE
Taylor and Boan started thinking about how to respond to an aggressive extraterrestrial attack during a 2001 discussion about defending against terrorist attacks.
"One thing that popped into my mind was that the only way Americans would be in an asymmetric war on the other side would be if we were attacked by aliens. Everyone chuckled, but then after a minute the comments started setting in," Taylor said.
"Then we really got to talking about it and we thought, well, you know, we really might need this contingency plan anyway," Taylor said.
Failure to prepare may mean mankind will have to dig in and fight with improvised weapons and hit-and-run tactics, much the same way Islamic extremists have battled the U.S. military in Iraq, Taylor said.
"You'd have to create an insurgency, a mujahideen-type resistance," Taylor said. "The insurgents know how to win this war against us. It also tells us that if we were attacked by aliens, this is our best defense."
INDEED.
Though I sometimes grieve for so many folks who are going to be frozen in bewilderment and shock for maybe days or longer when it comes down the pike.
The Bible mentions the GREAT DECEPTION of the END TIMES and folks hearts failing them for fear. I think this whole phenomena is somehow related to both.
My first thought was that Meteor crater might do.
The "average" human is say 1.6m tall, 0.5m wide and 0.25m thick giving a typical body volume of 0.2m3 times 6,000,000,000 gives a volume of 1.2km3.
Assuming Beringer Crater is a cone (it actually has more volume) it is 1.6 km diameter, and 190m deep giving a volume of 0.12
That ain't gonna work.
A conical hole 3Km in diameter, and 0.5km deep would do.
OTOH They could just as easily render us all down for oil...
I estimate the corpses of all 6 billion human beings contain less cubic feet of space than a hole 1 mile X 1 mile X 1 mile.
But then again, it is pretty late for me. I could be wrong.
BTW, why ask that question?
Nope. Nothing so large...
Here you have some of the reasons I have for not finding the stories of massive numbers of human abduction stories. An advanced interstellar traveling race would not need to abduct more than a few humans to gather the info necessary to manufacture a virus or perhaps nano machines that could do all of the things which implants might do.
With a custom designed virus or self replicating nano machines infection of a handful of humans strategically placed around the world in a few months nearly the entire world would be infected.
Why bother abducting huge numbers of individuals?
The zombie survival manual would be helpful too.
No one authoritatively seems to know—that’s convincingly come forward.
The more plausible guesstimate seems to be some variation on the following . . .
helping set up, enforce and run the globalist government strictly according to the world leader’s edicts and preferences . . . with a minimum of risk and conflict all up and down the different ranks and classes.
or . . . as some put it . . . to enslave, robotize, coerce the masses to comply overwhelmingly and precisely as needed amidst varying levels of chaos, terror etc.
But why would an advanced civilization need slaves?
With our present technology we barely need workers today. With in a few decades nearly every unpleasant task that a alien race would want to do on our planet (mining I would guess) could be done cheaper and more efficiently by robotic mining equipment.
Unless enslaving other races is their hobby I cant see a purpose in conquering the earths people.
I they wish to inhabit Earth it would make more sense to be to exterminate the human race.
To me the most realistic Sci Fi movie on this vein was Independence Day.
When the President ask the captured alien what they (the aliens) want from the Earths people the alien replies We want you to die.
If the aliens arrive on Earth and they do not announce themselves as I see it they have only two possible motives;
The first is benign and that is to do anthropological studies.
The second is malignant and that is to study us to discover the most efficient method of eliminating us.
For an advanced civilization the second would not take long and eliminating us would not take much longer. For the first it could almost all be done form outside of the atmosphere by listening to our electronic emissions.
It’s a question an old high-school teacher of mine once posed to show just how much people over-estimate man’s place on Earth.
You are correct in your estimate. A hole 1 mile square and less than 1/2 mile deep would be a grave large enough to dump all six billion people.
It’s hard to imagine how microscopic a speck that is.
Most people are math-challenged and give a knee-jerk response like “a hole the size of Texas !”
As referenced above . . .
IF the so called ET’s or the real ET’s in cahoots with satan and his fallen angel cohorts are what’s really going on—as I’m convinced it is . . .
Then
the issue is to deceive mankind and detract as many; turn as many; and with the global government in place, destroy as many as possible before Christ returns to reign in complete control of all creation and this planet.
Scripture says that as in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days before the return of Christ Jesus.
One of those features of such days was that the fallen angels; the “WATCHER” would be busy copulating with humans—creating hybrids and polluting human genes in violation of God’s law to them.
They are eager to throw sand in God’s face to take what little vengence they can from being kicked out of Heaven with satan . . . by being destructive to God’s favorite creation.
That quite well explains more data points than any other explanation.
The DVD’s from the ANCIENTofDAYS.net site ref’d above are very good with a wealth of referenced material outlining the above with a lot of evidence from many disciplines.
I read somewhere that all the 6 billion people in the world could fit into the state of Texas, with plenty of room to spare for everyone. Don’t know if I would like to see that many people in Texas, though...
You said — “Of course, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that the many so called ET races are either mostly or exclusively fallen angels/watcherspart of the 1/3 of the angels who allied with satan when he was kicked out of Gods Heaven.”
Yes, angels are truly the only aliens that exist outside of our domain here on earth. And yes, there are 1/3 of the angels who allied with Satan. However, I don’t read that Satan and his angels are kicked out of God’s Heaven until around the Tribulation. [Revelation 12:6-11].
I think you misdirected this post to me.

I’ve seen the WATCHER/ETs copulating with humans on Youtube. It’s amusing, but sad. But I haven’t found a reference to this in the Bible, though. Where is that prophecied?
I accept your estimate of a hole even smaller than I estimated on the grounds that I made my calculations on the basis that all humans were adults and Americans. This would delibrately give me a hole too big. Don’t want any feet, hands or assorted body parts sticking out above ground.
I would think demons would go about this a different way. Aliens scare the shit out of people, why scare people when you can look nice and pretty to them and then blind side them as supposedly they usually do?
I mean, if you read accounts of “Real” demonologists, they usually say demons look pretty, then get real ugly once you are in the “spell”. I’m just saying, demons can do a lot better than posing as Aliens.
